No keys for hiis bike help

Post by Vtr-downunder »

Hi guys
First off I'm new here to the site so big hello from Australia.

Ok so I purchased a 98 a few weeks ago that has seen better days, last run on the road nearly 7 years ago!
Basically all there but rough.

I had a chance to buy a write off bike from an auction last week that had cosmetic damage only.
Frame is de-reg in this country and can never be put on the road again.
I do not have any keys for this 2003 and of course it has hiis.

So my plan is to get a key made so I can at least get the seat off and get the clocks to light up and give me a millage reading so I know what sort of use it's had. ( I take it the hiis won't stop it from powering up)
(My other 98 bike has done 140,000km.

So I'd like to know if it's possible to use my old CDI from my 98 with my 03 to get it to start.
I'm happy to forgo the hiis system.

My plan is to swap my 98 frame over to the 03 bike all going well.

I don't want to have to swap harness if I don't have to.

Anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks alistair

Thanks but I have no keys at all.
To programme a key you need to have 1 original key as far as I can tell by my reading.

try these chaps.... someone else posted this and i checked it out myself... http://www.keysinthepost.com

apparently they can sort hiss systems with lost keys - suggest you give them a call before you waste time & money!
"We also specialise in chipped motorcycle keys for Kawasaki, Honda, Ducati, Suzuki, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi and many others. Have you lost the keys to your bike? Do you have the Honda HISS system, and you've lost your keys? Just send us your ECU and we will send you back two coded keys!! We can also clone keys, without the red master key, so, panic over, just keep on riding!"

"If you can find a dealer with a Motorscan 5650 then he can programme a HISS key from the information stored on the ECU."

To save postage see if you can find somewhere more 'local' who can do it.

g'day  Welcome to the mad house. We have a few Aussie members on here.

You will be looking at swapping the wiring harness over, unless your a sparks. Electrician that is  Not too difficult really except you need to deal with clocks as they have different connectors on the early model compared to late. HISS (Hyper Injected sh**ty s**te)

Will the 98 cdi plug into the 03 loom without mods? And the clocks, is that just a case of an extra wire for the hiss light? And I guess a different connector.

Not to start it as the HISS key is programmed to the individual ECU unit - hence why there is a need to send off the ECU to get an ignition key paired to match.

Your missing the point.
If you have a non hiis cdi it's not going to be reading a signil from the hiis.
The ignition should still send power down to the cdi unit to power the coils. (Fi bikes it powers up the fuel pump and Fi system) in our bikes it's not so tecnical I would assume.
Key turns ignition and non hiis cdi should power.
The hiis system works by confirming a code between key and cdi, it does not interrupt the power ignition feed to the cdi rather it disables the cdi.
Theory or fact I'm not 100% :?:

Problems I can see is the cdi in the hiis version has a different connection, ( not yet compared my 98 and 03 units as I can't get the seat off yet!)

The earlier and later models are not only placed in a different area of the bike but have totally different connectors. The later model IIRC has both the Converter unit and Ignition Control Unit as one complete unit so no they are not hot swappable. Well, they might turn hot if you try swapping them  If only it was that simple.

Cool that's what I needed to know.
So now it's swap the loom over and run the non hiis lock set and cdi on my 03 or try and get a key made.
I've seen a Yamaha key system and coding machine, dealer still charges a fortune to do it.
They know you don't have an option.

VTR - Where are you in Australia.

I know a locksmith in Sydney that specialises in automotive and motorcycle systems, locks, keys, etc. He cut two coded keys for me for $140, which to me seems reasonable.

The other option is to purchase a couple of chipped keys off the net and code them to the '03 model by following the instructions in the links provided above.
Cheers

Hi don, I'm up the blue mountains.
I have a locksmith guy in blacktown, he wouldn't touch it.
Reckoned he's had too may go bad as you need to break open the casing on the cdi unit.
As far as coding keys yourself you need 1 original key to start with.
I saw a utube vid of a crowd in Melbourne re flashing a Yamaha ecu and re coding keys to it but he was able to wire the efi box to his laptop.

Hi VTR,

Try these people. If anyone can give you a solution then these people can. It worth the phone call even you come up empty. If they cannot help then you have to buy the items off a wrecked bike, but they will want big bucks for them as seen in the previous posts.

Good luck.
