HEL brake line fitment
Hi all, I just typed out a big message about brake line fitment, but first of all, do the "Full Length Race" HEL lines fit a stock bike, or do you need the "Over-the-Mudguard" setup? I may have made a mistake.

Race ones are fine.TravisZack wrote:Hi all, I just typed out a big message about brake line fitment, but first of all, do the "Full Length Race" HEL lines fit a stock bike, or do you need the "Over-the-Mudguard" setup? I may have made a mistake.
The difference is that over the mudguard is the same as standard. ie one line splits into two. With race its two sep lines from M/C to each calliper. You get a longer banjo & need 3 cooper washers at the top. M/C-washer-line-washer-line-washer-banjo.

Re: HEL brake line fitment
Right then, I've got the race lines so in that case...
I've come to fit the front brakes and I'm loosely positioning the lines to check fitment, but I can't find a way for them to comfortably fit.
Regarding banjo's, the longer line is slightly kinked on one end and straight on the other, and the ever so slightly shorter line is kinked on one end and very slightly kinked on the other.
I've tried stacking both kinked ends inwards at the lever but the caliper ends get pressed right up against the fork leg, and one has to twist quite badly to even line up. Having the kinked ends outwards, as per the stock lines, is fine for the first one but then the second had nowhere to go. I can't have the straight or slightly kinked end up top as it interferes with the pinch bolt on the top yoke.
Anyone have the same set fitted and how have you done it?

Re: HEL brake line fitment
The kinked ends go on the callipers. The longer line is for the left calliper, you fit the straight fitting up against the M/C the lesser kinked furthest away from the M/C.
As for the routing just do it the same way as the standard lines. (you did take pics before you took it all apart didn't you...?)
On the lower yoke you can use a P clip to hold them in place. One will bolt into the hole vacated by the old splitter & theres a handy vacant threaded hole on the other side.

Re reading your post there...Have you moved the M/C inwards along the bars at all..?

Re: HEL brake line fitment
I'm pretty sure it's in the same place, it's pressed up against the bar on the inside and it can't go any further outbound due to wires coming from the switchgear. Can only fit the lines by twisting the MC back so the handle is high up, due to the bit sticking out for the banjo to press up against.
I have pics from before but the standard banjo is more kinked on the MC end than any of the of the ends on the HEL lines, so it clears that pinch bolt easily.

Have you tried rotating them so the stick out forwards ?TravisZack wrote:I'm pretty sure it's in the same place, it's pressed up against the bar on the inside and it can't go any further outbound due to wires coming from the switchgear. Re: HEL brake line fitment
Yeah I tried that but they interfere with the clocks when the bars are turned to the left.
I've just been back down and had another play, mounted them up conventionally with both kinked ends at the callipers and the slightly kinked end first at the MC. Before, I was nipping the handle up when I was happy with the angle and then not having the room for the banjo's, but with the whole lot twisted back a little they just fit. It might be the same angle as before as I was only going off feel, and I've not ridden for ages now
The stock setup definitely has more room for adjustment though.
Cheers for the help Mac, I thought the kinked ends should be at the callipers but it just wasn't lining up for me and I was trying all sorts of different ways! Good to know that's the right way, I'm happy enough with it now, gonna get them bled through.

Ah Carl, looks like yours have had the tab removed, which was basically the bit causing the issues. I left it though as it does mean they can't be set to stick out too far, hitting the clocks or front subframe on full lock.
Darkember, looks like you've retained the tab and gone over the top, but then the clearance won't be as much of an issue with those bars.

All good now anyway, bled them last night, just need to clip them in to place.

Even though you seem to be sorted...

As you can see I had it wrong in my earlier post...the slightly kinked one is on the inside...

Which is also angled froward slightly compared to the other one...

I found going behind I could not get full lock without the lines stretching.
