So I Balanced my carbs today, with the tubing and ball bearing gauge.
Carbs were out, so I adjusted and got them somewhere near.
The ball bearing that is moved by the carb vacuum moves back and forth along the tube very quickly
about half inch either side of the gravity ball was the best I could get !!
Whats going on there then??
PS; I fitted a couple of clothes pegs on the pipes but they aren't very grippy so didn't
make any difference
Carb Balancing
Re: Carb Balancing
I use one of those types of carb balancers myself. So long as the amount the moving ball bearing is an equal amount both sides of the stationary ball bearing, then yes that is the best you can get it.
What's happening is each cylinder in turn sucks the moving ball when on the induction stroke. The front cylinder sucks the ball bearing one way, and the rear cylinder sucks the bearing in the opposite direction. It sounds like you were trying to get the ball bearing stationary by adding your clothes pegs, but that's not necessary IMHO.
So long as all your connections were air tight, you've set it as well as you can. Now go and ride the bike and see if it has made any difference
Chris.

Re: Carb Balancing
Thanks for that reply, so that i know things are fairly balanced,
one other thing , i also noticed when i took both vac pipes off, that fuel
came out both pipes but more came out the front pipe is this normal ?

Re: Carb Balancing
Don't forget to check your chain tension

Re: Carb Balancing
lol, thanks for that, yes my chains a lot looser now
its dragging on the link pipe just like yours !!!

Re: Carb Balancing
Re your gauge, try clamping a pair of mole grips on to one side- you won't need both sides.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
