Apologies in advance if this has been covered but I'm having issues starting my Storm. I fitted a new OE reg/rec. when I got the bike as it was on the original and was knackered. At the same time I fitted a new Yuasa battery and have had it on a conditioner ever since. Recently I've tried starting it and it turns over very slowly and not quick enough to start it. The bike is near mint and only covered 11,000 miles so on stripping the starter found it was more or less as new. I sent the battery back and they did exhaustive testing and concluded the battery was fine which I was not surprised about as I've never had issues with Yuasa batteries.
I'm now at a bit of a loss as to what to do, do I change starter relay? All cables appear to be in great condition.
Any pointers much appreciated.

Battery or starter problem etc...
Re: Battery or starter problem etc...
Starter motor turns slowly
Usual Suspects
Usually there's corrosion under the rubber hood on the bolt on the starter motor that the cable connects to.
Starter motor turns, but engine does not turn over
Usual Suspects
- Weak battery
Poorly connected battery cable
Poorly connected starter motor cable
Faulty starter motor

Great reply Wicky!
Ok, i'll add my little bit, not try to hijack the thread, but it may help the OP understand his particular issue.
My VTR1000 sits with no battery tender, sometimes up to a month and still start fine
After 1 month, the Battery is drained enough, that it cranks, but too slow to fire, the solution being i just roll start the bike, then it seems to start again fine after 10min of riding.
Yet this next bit is really strange.
I can be out on an all day ride, bike starts perfect after each stop, then all of a sudden, and after 200k's of solid riding, i will go to start it, and the engine just lumps over slow, like it has a flat battery!!!
Stop... Pause, try again, turns over even slower!
Stop... Pause, try again, turns over really fast, big back fire, off she goes.
After reading on here, i suspect it might be the Stater Motor cable connection, or it could be something else.
Its happened a few times like this, really strange.

Also worth checking is the main earth connection coming from the battery to the chassis/engine. You can get corrosion in there which can cause enough resistance to cause starting problems.

Try shorting across the starter solenoid terminals to each other with a screwdriver,if it turns over ok, the solenoid may need replaced.
Re: Battery or starter problem etc...
Well it looks like the starter solenoid must have been faulty. Refitted the battery after testing, put another used solenoid from my Pan on it and bingo turned over and started great. Very strange!
