Fly Wheel lightening ?
Re: Fly Wheel lightening ?
Took mine for a spin today, well impressed.
No different until around 50mph then it feels totally different, like it's on nitrous.
Definitely won't be going back to standard.

Re: Fly Wheel lightening ?
If someone can give me the appropriate dimensions, I can lighten them.
Re: Fly Wheel lightening ?
Update with the ultra lightened flywheel.
I fitted the ultra light flywheel about a month ago & have covered about 200 miles with it, still got my left foot too.
If you are thinking of this mod, cut the weight & basket. I used Benny's picture that Lloydie posted & it works.
I initially lightened one with the weight only & ran it for a little while. It was impressive but I just got used to it.
So I cut another using Benny's picture as reference. It is brilliant, I myself have not experienced any low speed idling or riding issues or noticed the deceleration problems.
The improved acceleration is very very impressive, the only criticism that people might find is that it has changed the character of the bike.
It is more vicious, angry, less friendly. Its quite hard to explain, but I like it a lot. 10/10
Big thanks guys for all the help & picks

Re: Fly Wheel lightening ?
As the one to always throw the bucket of cold water on an idea......lol
The only thing I would add to this thread is IMHO there just might be a reason why the race teams didn't do these radical lightening jobs on the flywheel.
Also the only true engine failure that I know of ( broken rod......
) was on an engine with one of these ultra light flywheels.
While there might be no connection between the two, you might also be placing loads you don't know about on parts you are not expecting to load when you go crazy with the flywheel weight.
The lighter the flywheel the faster things can change speed..... and what is a stock rods load limit?
Just something to think about.

Re: Fly Wheel lightening ?
I found that flywheel lightened per Roger's instructions is just enough, and without any risk.
Re: Fly Wheel lightening ?
Mine is just to the "Moriwaki" spec and works well also with no long term downsides ( I have over 60k miles on the flywheel mod......Stephan wrote:I found that flywheel lightened per Roger's instructions is just enough, and without any risk.

Re: Fly Wheel lightening ?
I agree and not only mechanical, well it is really, but more electrical, you also affect the position of the piston in the cylinder at the point of ignition. While there might be no connection between the two, you might also be placing loads you don't know about on parts you are not expecting to load when you go crazy with the flywheel weight.

There are differences in flying from the first series of fiberglass to last beyond 2002, or the same?
