Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
Only had it a week, so gave it a good once over as it's not on road until next month.
Next job is a bloody good clean - any recommendations for cleaning the black crap off the nice gold calipers???

Strip 'em off & apart, lashings of brake cleaner & a scrubbing brush.
As you have them apart pull the pistons out, clean them, check them...check the seals.
Bung the the split callipers in a ultra sonic cleaner if you have one.
Rebuild, bolt on, fresh fluid, jobs a good 'un.

Before...

After...

Fresh fluid requires a bleed through...surly not even a teal monkey would just pour a bit in the res & walk away thinking ''that'll do...''Watty wrote:Maybe bleed em too Mac! Bilt Hamber Auto-wheelany recommendations for cleaning the black crap off the nice gold calipers???

Great stuff but a bit pricey. Otherwise Surfex-HD is great for all general cleaning.degreasing. Just don;t ever use it neat. 50/50 - 60/40 with water is strong enough.

As your cleaning you need to free up them pistons,I just used some Halfords Brake cleaner, didn't split calipers, just got each piston working, I fitted a little block of wood to stop 2 pistons moving,
freed the other two up, and like has been said, lashings of brake cleaner, and a tooth brush, hopefully your pistons aren't pitted to bad

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
Fitted some Metzler M7s front and rear.
They felt really strange when first leaving the garage but after a few miles to warm up and a quick click of the front compression and rebound they feel great.
Can't wait to find out how they feel on a warm day, I've been pretty impressed already

They're amazing. Best tyre I've used, fitting a new rear one on Saturday! Wouldn't trust anything else at the momentPete.L wrote:Fitted some Metzler M7s front and rear.
