VTR CCT.
VTR CCT.
Noob question here. I have received my new CCT in the post today which is great my question here is the garage that completed my bike service today said I don't need to replace them just now the guy said the tensioners on my bike are pretty new look less than 1 year old from what he said. Said they were the updated Honda oem. They have a little pink dot on them . Advice please!
Re: VTR CCT.
No disrespect to your local garage intended, but it sounds to me like they are not that familiar with the way the valve timing is set on the Firestorm (which is totally different to an inline four cylinder engine) so they don't really want the job. Of course I could be wrong.
I take it your new CCT's are manuals
My advice would be either do the Stopper Mod or fit your new ones if they are manuals, but make sure you or whoever carries out the work follows our tried and tested method of how to set the valve timing in the Workshop Knowledge base section.
As for different coloured dots on the CCT's, I have yet to see any proof to back this up.
Chris.

Re: VTR CCT.
Thanks for the reply. Yeah they are manual tensioners. The guy was saying you get plenty of warning when they are going to fail. Personally I wasn't convinced. I have had a Cbr600 which had the CCT issue and ran fine until I got it fixed. I am really not that confident doing the job myself.
Re: VTR CCT.
IL4 Tensioner failures wont cause damage as they have the extra 2 cylinders to keep valves from crashing and will just rattle away, a V2 is totally different. There's no point asking a garage because even Honda themselves make mistakes but I guess that's because they like to make money.
See the following on how to install them.

Ok will defo air on the side of caution. And get the manual tensioners fitted asap. Job for the weekend also orderd some new exhausts. Orderd some MTC Stubbys. Ps hope the MRS ain't on here

Re: VTR CCT.
Even as the one person you might meet that doesn't have an issue with stock CCTs I would say change them out.
You don't know how they were treated so even looking good they could be ready to go.

Hi Chris I took it into street evolution down in inverkeithing. I would personally feel better with them fitted spoke to dunfermline motorcycles they will be able to fit them.
Re: VTR CCT.
While Honda did 'update' the CCTs with a different part no - there is no overwehlming evidence that they are any significantly different or any more 'reliable'. Coloured dots have been reported as white, pink, orange and their meaning & significance is at a level approaching superstitious due to Honda not wanting to wanting to acknowledge there is a fundamental problem with their CCTs.They have a little pink dot on them
In the meantime, read this recent thread 'dreaded cct after 48hr ownership' :-( > http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 23&t=33856
These were changed for oem honda auto tensioners only 4 months ago prior to ownership 800 miles ago .
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Hawk have you fitted manuals finally. I seem to remember way back you were adamant that the OEM's were just fine. Have we changed your opinion??8541Hawk wrote:Even as the one person you might meet that doesn't have an issue with stock CCTs I would say change them out.
