Would like to open the debate on products such as Activ8 and Quickslip 50. Many I have spoken to seem to rave about them saying they make a a difference to the feel of the engine and transmission.
I have my doubts. Both contain chlorinated hydrocarbons which back in the late thirties was abandoned as it played havoc with brass gearing systems. Chlorine will corrode especially brass based alloys and steels. Where does that leave ones piston rings and other components this stuff ad-hears to.

Years ago we used "Wynns" engine treatment, all us old gits swore by it. However the oil today is great, not sure its needed but if you can afford it try it, it might make the clutch slip though
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!

They do work, the old man was getting his Volvo yatch engine serviced by Voltech and the mechanic was talking about a guy that had put slick 50 in with the oil from when the engine was new.
Thought he had run it in after 5 0hours or so, gave it some beans and siexed the engine. Called the engineer out to look and found that the engine looked like it had not been run in, mechanic and man argued until it was man amitted using Slick 50...
So from this second hand conversation, we have to believe that they work.
Second example, dad watched two old mini's being driven around Brands, one with normal oil, another with Slick 50 added to the oil. after one lap they drained both sumps and allowed them to carry on. The mini with engine oil only didn't complete the whole lap, the one with Slick 50 lasted nearly 2 laps.

So what your saying is that if you have a mini and want to run it in a 2 lap race, us slick 50 then drain the oil to save weight so you can win?

I would think the clutch will slip.
I used to get a slipping clutch just from fully synthetic oil on my R1.

The clutches wont slip. These products are designed to circumnavigate that issue. I am more concerned on the chlorinated hydrocarbons and what effect they have on different materials.

anyone remember prolong? that oil additive,i tried that years ago on a cbr 400.
i couldnt say that it gave me a million horsepower extra but it did idle higher after a run.
im not sure if you can still get prolong but i think i recall the add the did something similar as the minis but they used dodge vipers,how real that was i dont know.
