hose from top of front cylinder

Hi guys I got my bike back from getting mcct fitted now after putting my airbox on I notice a hose that comes from the top of the front head over by the spark plug and then runs through the plastic and under the airbox but no place for it to go so is it just a breather pipe

Aha - I misread the original post, that does sound like the breather from the front cam cover that plugs into the bottom front left of the airbox.

My stray hose is a small 5mm id hose that terminates under the airbox somewhere, passes out to the right and downwards and looks like a drain for something.

to bloody right, had mysterious oily lhs rad, found the breather had been off for quite some time, it is a complete b'stard to put on, well getting the circlip on is. Ended up lifting the tank, taking air filter lid and filter out and just managed to squezze my hand throught the hole between the airbox and frame and wrestle it on.

Was worthwhile tho, because found the front carb was only sat on the inlet tract, yet it still ran. all sorted now and yes it does run a hell of a lot better with the carb fully home in the tract

Bloody butt to fit especially trying to get the clip on once the airbox is in place. Eventually i used trusty old silicon grease which made it really slippy placed the clip at it final position lined the airbox up and it slipped in wonderfully. A little like another pastime I get up to

Yes that hose is a bit of a challenge I agree
I've found that using some WD40 on the hose and airbox outlet, making sure the clip is on the hose in the place it needs to be once the hose is fitted, I can get the hose to slip onto the outlet on the air box bottom. That's before I screw the air box bottom to the carbs,

Right guys looked at the rear hose on the top of the head and it just runs down and hangs at the bottom so I am assuming the front pipe is the same

Right guys looked at the rear hose on the top of the head and it just runs down and hangs at the bottom so I am assuming the front pipe is the same

As below, rear connection point for the big bore hose from the cam cover, and front connection point for the front big bore hose from the cam cover, shown by the red arrows (no not the jet planes )

OK this is easy to put back on. Make sure the airbox is loose with nothing else connected first.

There are two hoses there. One larger breather that runs front the cam cover up through the hole in the plastic cowl and then attaches to the bottom of the airbox and a smaller stubbier hose that connects from the plastic elbow on the side of the carb up to the underside of the airbox alongisde the breather.

As the airbox is loose lift the rear of the box upright slightly and reach in and connect the bigger breather hose. If you want the spring clip on there, then do this now. I don't bother with the clip on mine as the hose it not going anywhere and the pressure of the airbox screwed down holds it all in place. So don't panic over the clip. Now onto the smaller hose, first make sure it is pointing upwards and then gently lower the airbox down onto the hose. You may even be able to get your left hand around and under the frame bar at the front of the airbox to the side of the snorkal and hook you hand under the box and feel the hoses. I can... You should feel when this hose sits correctly in place. You have to be careful not to bend the lip of the hose over when pushing it into place. It's all down to feel.

Once your front hoses are connected, then get the airbox screwed back down onto the carbs, but make sure the smaller hose is popped into place on the rear as you tighten things down. It's best to bend the rear breather right out the way. Doing this first saves mistakenly popping off the smaller front hose when trying to put the rear breather into place.

Warning: Pay particular attention to not cross threading any of the 8 carb airbox mounting screws. Start each of them off by feel then tighten up with an appropriate screwdriver head and don't overtighten. Apply a bit threadlock to the threads if you wish.
