Choke cable

Post by BrianC »

Are the choke cables on these known for seizing?

When I got mine the choke was really hard to pull on - now taken carbs off as I do the cct s and not able to move it now.

I will strip it tomorrow but wanted some pointers

They can do - if it has got stiff spray some WD-40 at it and work it in - though it might go to the other extreme and run too loose!

There's a placcy adjuster behind where the choke knob is mounted.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

If you have the carbs off then you will be able to well lube the cables from end to end. Take care removing the carb ends as the plastic nuts are very prone to breaking. There is somebody on here that does make replacement brass ones. cannot remember his name but someone will.

Make sure you route them properly as well.

Choke cable

Remember the little threaded nut behind the nob and under the rubber cover is a locking nut that stopes it from returning ,
Check to make sure it's not to tight .

Lube, no lube, it's your choice .

The problem with my choke cable was the metal tube the extends from the knob was badly corroded so cleaned it up and greased it, now the bugger won't stay out !!!! No matter how much I tighten the wheel - is thus common and us only solution a replacement ?

Take it apart and remove as much of the grease that you can. Same thing happened to mine. Removed the corrosion and then lubricated it thoroughly. Wouldn't stay out, so I removed the lubricant and cleaned it up with carb spray and it works perfectly now. Give it a try.
Cheers
