Frame slider bolts?

Post by NZSpokes »

Can anybody tell me the size of the stock bolts that go through the frame where you mount sliders? i have some old sliders I want to adapt over.

And are the stock bolts normally very tight?

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

And yes, they're normally tight. Mostly they haven't been touched since first build.
High tensile is best, but tbh they screw into aluminium alloy, so it won't make a lot of difference if you swap to stainless or Ti.
If you're going to make a stand-off bracket to mount frame sliders on, make sure it's quite soft, as it will need to bend as they slider touches down in a crash rather than being rigid. If it's rigid you may get frame damage instead; better to have a sacrificial bracket which can bend and then be straightened or replaced.

The DoubleHard b8stard ones I run are made from mild steel, about 5mm thick. They just need a repaint every couple of years or so, but tbh I don't bother as I can't see with my knees so a bit of flaky paint or rust in that area doesn't bother me overmuch.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

They look hollow so Im a bit worried they will snap. But can only try.

What is a good brand of slider? I do want the through the fairing type. Or I may run some that go over the fairing upside down.
