Spluttering and only firing on one cylinder (front)
Damn, after a great 2 days and fantastic weather, riding on the west coast of Scotland, heading home today in torrential rain, bike starts to splutter and lack power. Then its OK, then back to spluttering with no power. It seems intermittently to be dropping the rear cylinder, as the exhaust pipework is cold. Then if left sat for a while and start it, it is ok. Anybody got any ideas? I was thinking possible coil failing or electrical short?
I think it is water related, as it was perfect until the ride in the torrential rain today, like serious smount if water, and once recovered back home and dried out, fired up on both.
Cheers

Could be the rear coil shorting out due to the wet...Lashings of WD40 (other water dispersant sprays are available..) Carry a small can with you & if it happens again give it a spray...It might just be the plug cap...IIRC Bazza had an issue like that last year in heavy rain.
Or change the coil pack...Just so happens I have a set or two in stock !

Usually it's the front plug / plug cap getting drowned in water when the recess in the front cam head drain hole gets blocked - remedy is to unblock drain hole. Also check that the tank breather hose exiting out near the belly pan isn't water logged - Usual remedy is to cut it a little shorter and at an angle.
Rear is quite well protected from elements so you might then want to get a multimeter and check your ignition / sparky gubbins is up to spec.

Now that it has dried out it is starting and running fine. Took out for a few miles and rides perfect. Simulated the symptom's if yesterday by pulling the rear coil connection, so its def, coil when wet, as plug hole dry and plug is only a few months old.
CBR coils ordered, but anything else to be checked with coil?

Just seems to not like the Scottish Torrents of Rain!!
Now looking for an old set of coils or even just the HT plug Cap if anybody has any old ones lying about. Wanting to try some test modifications on these.

I am waiting on a set arriving from someone, but as of yet they haven't appeared. If they don't then I wouldn't mind giving you a shout for them.Bananaman wrote:I've got a set of coils knocking around if there still needed

No worries mate, just let me know

Re: Spluttering and only firing on one cylinder (front)
Mine does this, in the wet, front cylinder cuts out. I have stick coils fitted, so it's not a perfect solution....
I even fabbed a waterproof cover for it out of a pushbike inner tube, still can't seem to seal it effectively. Drain hole was clear, I find that the little pipe on a can of WD40 pokes up it beautifully, and then you can squirt it clear,

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
