Hi all,
I replaced my rear shock with an item off of Ebay. It came, it looked good, nice and clean, no oil on the rod and went back in no problem (standard, Yamaha TRX850 not a Storm). Unlike the original, the preload adjuster worked and I thought all good. Bouncing the rear end, the shock makes a noticeable "sucking" noise, like a collapsed lung when uncompressing - like it's sucking air in. Suspension is oil tight and works okay, so why the noise? Guess it needs a rebuild but having paid out 100 notes for it following the failure of my previous units rebuild I'm loath to do so as it all seems to work and I won't hear it with me lid on and two Gibson pipes at full chat.

I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!
Re: My shock "sucks"
Sounds like the reason for no oil leaks is that there is none left to leak out......
Does cranking in the rebound (and compression if it has one) adjuster all the way in change how the shock feels?

Thanks Hawk - that's the weird thing, all the adjustment seems to work. I'm going to ride it a bit and then have it rebuilt.8541Hawk wrote:Sounds like the reason for no oil leaks is that there is none left to leak out......

A lot of shocks do it. Just the oil passing through the rebound stack.

That was what I was wondering if you were hearing Mav, not air being sucked in.NZSpokes wrote:A lot of shocks do it. Just the oil passing through the rebound stack.
In my experience a shock with no oil in it equals no rebound damping what-so-ever.
On the road it'll be like a pogo stick, everytime the rear end compresses it will fly back up with no resistance, boing,
Chris.

Or it tries to spit you off mid bend

If the adjusters work, you should be fineMav617 wrote: Thanks Hawk - that's the weird thing, all the adjustment seems to work. I'm going to ride it a bit and then have it rebuilt.
