The Contour from Knox is quite different in concept to the ‘Racier’ looking ‘vertebra’ type back protectors but don't be fooled it is equally capable, rather than external plastic 'spine' popular on many other products it is formed in a 5 layer mould Honeycomb polpropeylene protection that follows the ‘S’ contour of your back(hence the name I guess) this ensures supreme fit, comfort and impact absorbtion, the Contour is finished with technically advanced fabrics inc. Schoeller - PCM, Schoeller Dynatec, L System with Coolmax and antibacterial treatment, not sure what all that means but the fabrics are nice and it's very well made.
the straps can be used in 2 positions, like braces or crossed over the chest.
Weighing in at only 600g it would be easy to think it sacrificed performance but this isn’t the case, it is CE level 2 approved and comfortably exceed test standards.
The thing I like most about the 'Contour' is it's comfort it really is the most comfortable back protector I've worn (and I've tried most) because of this comfort I had intended to keep it to use under my textile jacket as I struggle to get it in the back of my leathers (I think the leather as shrunk over the winter
) but I've found that in actual fact I've been riding mostly in my leathers so it's not getting used, I use the thinner style Knox 'aegis' under my leathers, while not as comfortable as the Contour being thinner it fits under my leather better.The only issue with the contour is it's thickness compared to some 'race' oriented models, this it because it is designed to absorb more of impact rather than spreading the impact forces in the way the hard plastic ones do and when I say the thickness is an issue what I mean is it is an issue for me but only under my tight fitting leather, someone who as lost a little weight my find it perfect for padding out the leathers and when worn under a textile jacket it is actually a benefit.
IMHO the back protector is a must have piece of kit, no matter what or how you ride, broken legs can be fixed but a broken back can easily result in paralysis and even death. Even if you don't buy this one get yourself back protector, even a cheap one is better than nothing, but obviously a top quality one ( like the Knox) is preferable.

There's not much to say about this really, it's basically a piece of tough padded polypropylene that you stuff down the front of your leathers, how much protection it would offer in a crash is anyone's guess after all who falls on their chest? but it would definitely protect you from any debris flicked up from the road, plus you'd a assume a company like Dainese knows what they are doing so anyprotection provided is likely to be the best possible also it as a the Dianese 'fox' logo on it which is nice.
I'm only selling it because I've now got a Knox one which clips to my back protector, and I cocked up when I bought it and ordered small by mistake.
