Oh my wrists!
Oh my wrists!
Hi, I'm new to this site and new to v twins. God i love this bike but it's killing my wrists especially my right. They have both been broken at least twice and my right arm was spit up to the elbow 15 years ago so that doesn't help. I've had hayabusa's, an r1 and a blackbird since and they haven't hurt me like the vtr. I've read about putting vfr750 bars on or bar risers but I don't know which is best. Any advice would be much appreciated.

CNC top yoke and a set of Renthals £230 and a superb Mod.
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!
Re: Oh my wrists!
Welcome aboard buddy, plenty on here have done this mod, I'm sure they will be along to advice you
Re: Oh my wrists!
I can't stand renthols , they just don't look good to me but each to their own is what I say. I want to keep the clip on look but more than anything i want to keep this bike, the soundtrack is incredible and i never realised how smooth a big twin is. I'll work out how to post pictures and introduce myself properly.
Re: Oh my wrists!
VFR bars over the risers, it's the angle of the dangle thats the issue, bar risers wont change that VFR bars will, or fit a set of F2 bars...if you can find them.
Making up since 2007, sometimes it's true...Honest...

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Or just ride hard everywhere,it goes then, along with the sore butt

Re: Oh my wrists!
Rather than the ride position (which I doubt would be worse than an R1 or 'Bus) maybe you've got an issue with the front suspension? As standard these have very restrictive compression valves which will transmit more road shock to the rider. In my experience (with both the VTR and also a 99 VFR800) replacing the weedy fork springs with something more manly, and knocking the compression damping back by fitting a high-flow Gold Valve or similar makes for both a more comfortable ride, and a better handling bike to boot.

Re: Oh my wrists!
My old Triumph TT600 used to kill my right wrist. The problem with that was the ammount of turn required for the throttle meant that that my wrist was in a very bent back position for a lot of the time.
Try bending your wrist downwards before taking hold of the throttle to preload the throttle twist grip and see if that helps. If it does then you may want to seek out another thread on here regarding a quick action throttle.
That was the solution for my TT660.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I'm gonna try the vfr750 bars and hope that helps. Until then I'll just have to ride fast everywhere. ......... i can feel another speed awareness course coming on. !
Re: Oh my wrists!
What no mention of a Quick Action Throttle (QAT) to relive oneself from that extra twist on the wrist to go WOT.
