Installing new starter motor

Post by vegie »

Hi,

I have been having some starting issues, so got myself a second hand starter that looks decidedly better than my existing.

I am a bit of a novice with all things mechanics, so please excuse the lame question.

I have removed the old starter motor with no issues, but fitting the new has been a challenge.

It fits up ok, but I cannot for the life of me 'push' it in. Is there a trick, big hammer, mallet, slowly work it in....anything that might help me get back on the road?

Thanks for your help.

Problem solved. Tip for new players (me!) - use only a genuine Honda O-ring.

The dealer did not have any genuine O-rings in stock, but said 'this one is half the price and will do the job.'

It didn't. It was slightly thicker than genuine and would not slide in no matter how much persuasion I was trying to give it.

It nearly always pays to go genuine, especially with things like "O" rings where there is not much difference in the price.

For me I will never use any gasket sets for engine rebuilds that are not genuine. Especially head gaskets, etc.
Cheers
Don

I have always been a genuine parts man but thought a) a dealer should know, and b) I didn't want to wait for the genuine part to arrive (needed to be ordered in).

In future, I'll stick with genuine....once bitten.
