Seriously p***ed off
Re: Seriously p***ed off
we have local manufacturer of rods here, it looks the same as Carrillo ones - maybe it is the same source, and actually on conrods bolts there is Pankl (Carrillo brand) mark. I can check availability if it is not too late.
Just to finish my story with crankshaft balancing. I have confirmation from more sources, that it is not big issue to leave it with lighter pistons, especially with oem rods, altough proper balancing would be beneficial. But if you don´t find anybody who does proper dynamic balancing of whole group (crank, rod, piston), it is probably better to leave it.

Re: Seriously p***ed off
(new Carrillo) rod bolts came in.... all told, it cost me just shy of $300 CAN (about 160 BP) for 4 bolts (debated recycling the old ones then thought about what happens if they fail...)... man is this gonna cost me a bundle again..... *sigh*
as for the balancing, it will be getting done, but I first have to wait for the crank to arrive (so I can get the codes from it then cross-reference for bearing selection/order.... more waiting.......

You'll get there , it'll be worth it ,
If not I'm sure the worldly members will be on your door step waiting to liberate parts off you [SMIRKING FACE]

Good to see you are manning up, Mik.
Build a quick engine and you will always trade reliability for power.
Or to put it another way, no pain, no horsepower and torque gains- and boy, am I familiar with that equation......
It's worth it most days, but every so often you have a run of bad/expensive days, that's just the way the trade-off works.
After all, you could've just bought an SP2 or a Ducati/KTM had you wanted.
The joy's in the creation, as far as I'm concerned. (Wish there was more bloody joy in mine at the moment, second try at welding crankcase, coolant still falls out under gravity, let alone normal operating pressure).

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: Seriously p***ed off
Das crank hast arrived...... onto the bearings......
Regarding my take on the VTR and my adventure with said bike: My ultimate goal was /is to build a light, quick, responsive, yet comfortable and pleasant/easy to ride bike and think I am a good place now (once it's rebuilt, of course). I will eventually add another to the stable, and am not sure which, though a 1290 SDR or forthcoming SMT version may be worth a long hard look. I think the new GSX-S1000 would be a neat platform on which to build from......

Re: Seriously p***ed off
bearings have been picked up.. I will have the crank reassembled then off for balancing, before the entire engine is put back together (my shock is also off getting serviced at the same time, taking advantage of the downtime of sorts). I am hoping to have it back for the week after next (have my daughter next week so no riding)....... fingers are crossed......
P.S. I am also putting pressure on Factory Pro to get my carbs back to me; have had them since early May as I sent them back to have the loose-fitting HDJ needle jets fixed.....

we're in the thick of it now Marty. The best riding is now to the end of September, after which things become more unpredictable......
