.
Hello Chaps and chappesses.
Doing the fuel tank swap over (for the new undented one), and decided to change the air filter whilst I got the tank off.
Now, after air filter removal, we see the carb bells, and the 2 rubber hoses that go into a white "bottle" on the right side.
It's the tank breather bottle: p/no: 17365-MBB-000
Looking that the bottle, there is a whole in the side, and to me, it looks like something's missing?
Is there meant to be a bung, or a cap of some sort? Or is the "bottle" meant to have an open "vent"?
Thanks in advance.

No that is part of the design. The pulse or pressure as the engine breathes with those two great big pistons require somewhere to escape, so that's what that hole is about. Apparently the positioning has something to do with pulse resonance as it bounces off the side of the airbox. If you haven't tried already....take the oil filler cap of the clutch side with the engine running and have a feel.

WAHOO!
Many thanks for the speedy reply! Sneaked the bike from the lock up, to ride round to the house to do the tank swap. Absolutely swealtering heat up here (it's a sun trap at the back of the house, and the thermometer is showing 29.2 degrees C. Out the front, it's a mere 24 degrees C).
And, being a peely-wally, milky skinned, typical Scottish bloke, I'm can't stand it.
Trying to work on bike under a white king size sheet to keep cool. Went to pick up my socket ratchet and by gawd, nearly burnt me hand!
Anyhoo - as for the bottle, that's a sigh of relief, as I can now put it back together again. Didn't fancy leaving everything off for a few days if I had to order a missing part.
Electronic handshakes!
Dave.

Re: Air filter / Carb "bottle" - Something missing??
Electronic handshakes...there is is actually such a thing. Basically it's when two machines communicate with each other and/or contacting a website/server. In order for two devices to communicate with each other they both have to speak the same language. They basically exchange a few words to see if they can communicate with each other )same protocol), so one device/machine is like "do you speak my language" and the other device/machine will either say yes or no. If yes both devices/machines will introduce each other and shake hands. This is an electronic handshake.
Do you remember the days of modems and dial up internet connection and that horrid squelching digital noise it used to make. It would start with (now it's hard to describe a sound)
sqeashhhhh...sqeashhhhh...sqeashhhhh..sqeashhhhh....sqeashhhhhsqeashhhhh and then at the end just before it makes a connection it kinda went from sqeashhhhh......to dong dong...sqeashhhhhhhhhhhhhhh at the end. The dong dong dong was the electronic handshake.

Yes indeed, I still HAVE the dial up sound. Ok, I'm running broadband and can't hear that digital modem...
but I still have (and still use) the fax machine! Sharp UX-470, and yup, when waiting for "the other end" to accept the handshake, I still get to hear the chirruping and squeals!.
As said on previous posts,. I'm an old fart, and as you'll have read in the computer section, I am loathed to move with the times.
A fax machine is still a bloody handy thing to have. Ok, most folk can send a "digital fax" via the internet, but, I still use de old A4 paper and a UX3CR Imaging film.
Sad, isn't it?

Did I see the link for the fancy tutorial? Yes, I did thank you kindly!
Initially looked like: "OH MY GOD!, yter having a larf", but it looks like my tiny 2-cell brain an get to grips with it.
Again, a thousand thanks. Squeals, chirrups and other olde farty electric signal sounds.
