You might laugh at this, but a lot of my mates who have track bikes use bread boards , not the whole thing obviously

The plastic that's used for making the boards is shatterproof, cheap, very hardwearing & paintable. Also you can shape it if a radius is needed with a heat gun

They make a cardboard template & transfer the template onto the plastic breadboard. Cut it out & use Sikaflex, or similar polyurethane adhesive to stick it on. Be careful though, you won't get it off easily

You could use what you want really, I would think that the heavier the protective material used the better.

So that when it does hit the floor it spreads the load over a larger area, other than a thin section of carbon or fibreglass which could be easily punctured if landing an a sharp stone or similar.

Obviously when you hear BREAD BOARD it sounds awful , but it does work, honest

Warning though, that polyurethane adhesive is really good at not coming off anything

That's a neat idea. But oh gawd....

...I can just hear "her indoors" screaming at me at 7am, for how I ruined her bread board...and then go outside to find her on her back, under the bike, trying to keep the toast still on the board as she butters it...
