Side stand issues after removal.

Post by dpacitti »

Fitted bellypan last night so side stand off. When refitted it has too much side play by my reckoning. Still holds the bike fine but I don't recall the side play, I remember it being rigid. I'm handy with the spanners and do most things myself, ccts, services, bearings and chain etc yet I'm beat by a bloody side stand. No dropped/missing spacers or washers or anything like that. Removed again and rechecked. Still got the movement. Is it my memory or my fitment that's wrong?

I would say memory, :plainsmile when I got my bike the stand was not flicking up cleanly so I striped it down and the spring in the pipe was sticking and when I put it back together I noticed a lot of play I could not see any spacers lying around eather so I think it's the way it is

Cheers Roger, other thing is I see you also have a pan fitted. Did u have to modify or do u just let the stand rest against the bottom of the pan when it's in the up position?

if you mean the stand will move outwards slightly when loaded... yes that is normal. if the bike is sitting at the normal angle when the stand is down then is ok.

as far as I remember there is no shims or washers inside the stand hinge, so as long as you put the correct shouldered bolt in you cant go far wrong

The stand swings up and strikes a soft rubber pad stuck onto the belly pan can't move the pan up any Moore as it will be on the link pipes the lesser of two evels

i have to flick the side stand up when i push it into the garage as it will hit the ground if i don't but it still leans over at a sensible angle when parked.i think that there must be a good bit of play in it as all my bolts are tight
SO WHEN DOES THIS OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER KICK IN

Cheers for the replies. First firestorm, first honda in fact. Been on Suzuki's mostly bandits and gsxr. Seems more than the play than in previous bikes that's all. Probably only noticed as having to refit it I felt the play with my hand as opposed to my foot with a boot on top. It's fitted correctly so I'm reassured now. Cheers folks! :D
