waterpump seal
My water pump mechanical seal has gone and I'm topping up with coolant after every ride. So the time has come to replace it. I have a parts list but I'm having a little trouble visualising how it comes apart. Once the water pump cover is off, I need to remove the clutch cover. Does the impeller come off with the clutch cover, with the bearing and mechanical seal holding it in place in the cover? Does the drive gear stay in the crank case? And I don't have the tools to press the bearing and seals out and back in, anybody in particular recommended? I live near maidstone in Kent. Thanks

Re: waterpump seal
Done mine recently, not that bad a job, just very fiddly, clutch cover needs to come of too, so you will also need new clutch cover gasket, and also change the oil seal, and bearing while you do it, I did not use no special tools, the main thing is to measure how far the impeller protrudes through the cover, then when you refit make sure it's at the same distance. To remove it I used a socket over the impeller and tapped it out, then remove both seals/bearing, the tricky bit is when you press the impeller back in it pushes the bearing out, so I used a socket on top of the bearing, while I tapped the impeller from the other side, that will keep bearing in place. sometimes the impeller blade is very rusty and pitted, and the mechanical seal, can be corroded in place,, so you may need to clean it up. I only used a genuine Honda clutch cover gasket, all other parts were pattern parts, wemoto sell all the parts needed, and I got the bearing of eBay, let me know if you need link for them.
Re: waterpump seal
OK thanks, I'll pull it apart today and have a look. ordered the bits already.

Re: waterpump seal
Note the little tab areas on the clutch cover to help lever it off. One at the top rightish and one down near the rearset swingarm area. Don't go poking a screwdriver blade between the cases.

Re: waterpump seal
Thx cybercarl, all came apart ok, just needed tapping around the edges with a plastic dead blow hammer for a few minutes. Just waiting for the parts to arrive...seems like the story of my life with this bike lol

Re: waterpump seal
Presumably Honda don't put these together with Hylomar Red??
Someone has been in here before...
Got it all cleaned up anb have the bearings and seals out. The lip that the oil seal butts against has a 5mm or so chunk out of it and I found the piece between the seal and the bearing. More
I don't think it will matter as there is still plenty for the oil seal to butt up against.
Thanks as ever!
