Build your own PC
Build your own PC
So before the severe born again biking bug hit me, I was into computers, As I was into gaming I had a choice of buying
an xbox or PS or pc gaming.
My PC I owned at the time was about knackered so I decided to build a pc that was capable of general use and
yet powerful enough for gaming, that was about 12 years ago.
At present I have over 60 games through steam.
so I had several set ups but worked my way up to the specs below.
Like I said, since the biking bug has taken over the building has stopped , due to lack of funds and time.
I still enjoy gaming and play the lateset games (mainly shooters) and my pc is still holding up even though its about 2 years old,
which is old in computer terms !
I enjoyed building my pcs and its not that difficult
My spec: Gygabyte Z77 motherboard
Intel 3570k CPU (overclocked of course)
GTX 670 Graphics card
8GB of ram
120GB SSD
1TB Hard drive (storage for games)
Antec 300 gaming case
Anyone else on here build ther own and whats your specs
an xbox or PS or pc gaming.

Samsung 1200p 24" Monitor
ASUS Z97-A S1150 Motherboard
Intel i5 4690K (over clocked to 4.4GHz on stock cooler)
Asus GTX 670
8GB Ram (overclocked to 1600MHz)
120GB SSD && 750GB HDD
Fractal Define R4 case
I originally built it with an Intel G3258, which I overclocked to 4.7GHz (again, on stock cooler), however it failed at multi-tasking (such as compiling code/playing games/using spotify at the same time). So I upgraded the CPU in January this year, I still don't quite understand why I chose to overclock it. It was far from necessary

That's good spec, and up to date also !!
I forgot ,mine has an all in one water cooler
O/C to 4.3ghz , I had this clocked for at least 2 years and stays nice and cool

Re: Build your own PC
It runs games well, 60fps is achievable on most games with settings on at least High.
I keep meaning to experiment with water cooling at some point, but it seems like such a hassle and case temperature never goes above 40C (GPU locked at 69C during gaming due to custom fan map, CPU at 45-50C) anyway currently.. Maybe when I add in one of the new AMD cards it might come in useful
Not that that's happening any time soon
Feel free to add me on steam: virtuallism
Don't own many FPS' currently, but there might be a few games in common if you're ever up for a piss about

I usually only play single player these days, the times I did play I was usually first to die !!

Re: Build your own PC
I'm in to PCs too :-)
I've been building my own since I was about 12 I think, and have gone through a load of games PCs.
Currently I have a Z77 Asus ROG mobo, with an i7 3770 OC to 4.2 running water cooling.
I made a load of money out of computer related stuff at one point, so went overboard on the PC. I bought a Silverstone FT02B-W case (vertical GPU slots) and a top of the range Corsair PSU, to power 2 x R9 290X cards in crossfire. I bought a 30" 2k monitor to go with them and it looked pretty sweet for Battlefield.
Turned out to be a bit overkill, so I sold the GPUs and bought 2 x 280X cards instead. They still run pretty nicely, max out all games at 2k with decent frame rates.
The biggest upgrade though I found was getting an SSD.
I bought a 480GB 500 read / 500 write so I can have games and OS on there. PC boots so quickly now it's the best investment I made.

Re: Build your own PC
Running a home built archaic 2007 system (not built by me, but to my requirements at the time):
Mega slow for todays requirements on de internet, but was only intended for emails, sending the odd photo, and reading SKY news.
OS Name: Windows 7 Ultimate
Version: 6.1.7601
System Type: x64-based PC
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3000+, 1.81 GHz, 1 Core, 1 Logical Processor
BIOS Version Date: American Megatrends Inc 0301. Date: 20-12-2007
SMBIOS Version: 2.5
Installed Physical Memory: 2 GB
Total Physical Memory: 1.87MB
Available Physical Memory: 785MB
Total Virtual Memory: 3.75GB
Available Virtual Memory: 1.87GB
Page File Space: 1.87GB
NVIDIA: Geoforce 6150SE nForce 430
Version: 307.83
I have the drives partitioned into 5, and the total size is 500GB (tiny compared to what folk have these days)
The computers overall performance test showed a Base Score of 3.2
Subscores:
Processor: 3.7
Memory (RAM): 4.7
Graphics: 3.2
Gaming Graphics: 3.2
Primary Hard Disc: 5.9

ummmm I've got an Apple Mac and never played a comp game or x box in my life! am i missing something then? i have seen "Call of duty" but its not realistic. theres no blood and you tend to duck more in real life!!!
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!

What the hell do you do at work to justify that?bald_pig wrote: and my office PC:

i5 4210M (4cores @ 2.4GHz)
120GB SSD
3 24" Dell Monitors
Even I couldn't justify an i7 or discrete GPU to the company when they bought the thing

mind you, porn is better on the PC than in real life, so there is some good reasons for a big screen

AMD FX6100 water-cooled and overclocked to 4.9Ghz
32gb RAM
2x R9 270x in crossfire
60gb SSD
2TB Wd hard drive
1000watt Corsair PSU
Mainly use it for Battlefield 4 and GTA 5 at the moment. Will be upgrading when AMD bring out their next platform.
