Setting up suspension

Post by Virt »

How do? I've messed with the preload a bit on my Strom for when I haul an extra body or luggage, but how do you know what to do with suspension when fiddling with it?

I think my forks are fully adjustable and my rear has at least preload to mess with. I want to get the suspension done for me at some point, is it worth learning and doing it myself or should I just go north and visit KAIS?

Did do a search for suspension, but tapatalk is convinced there's nothing (rather unbelievable)

Just twiddle everything like a man possessed, then test ride it & if you fall off, you've gone too far...

p.s you're welcome

Ohh baby, don't make these romantic promises if you don't intend on seeing them through. :erection:

Seriously though... I remember a set up guide on here, although it's not a Storm, you could employ the same theories. Just need to find your ideal sag settings first.

Both popkat and peteL had posted a good general set up, wait for them to come along and advise.

Otherwise you need to tell us what it is you don't like about the current set up.

This is the results of searching before I posted this;

As to the setup, it handles like a beauty but it just feels like I'm on the very edge of the tyre when there's still a decent bit left.. mostly on left handers. Just feels like it doesn't want to lean lower

It might be, but what's the harm in trying a different setting to find out?

Being an Adventure bike aren't the tyres sort of semi-road off-road design :?: in which case the tyres may not be giving you such a good feedback in confidence as some road only tyres would. Are you not on a V-Strom forum YM Virt :?: They would probably know best if our Firestorm site is anything to go by :)

I had a quick look on google, this site seem to think the suspension is set up on the hard side from the dealers, although I'm not sure that would account for the problem you're talking about. Anyway have a look for yourself, scroll down to the suspension bit:-

I've got road tyres on it, it's not really made for off-road (cast wheels as opposed to spoked) and it weighs too much. I'm on the UK v-strom forum but it's not majorly helpful usually as the people there are all sane

I'll try that articles setup later Sirch, thanks

Interesting hearing his other complaints about it, I disagree with all of them  the engine is great fun to bounce off the limiter

The original tyres I believe are not that good, first thing is get some good rubber on it, then you can work on the rebound adjustment to try and bring some control to the suspension, as with most bikes try and get so when you push down on the suspension it returns at about the same rate..

Your never going to make it great as it has long travel suspension for comfort, it's no sports bike but I have a friend who rode his v strom so fast round the twisties that it took everything I was prepared to do to get in front and clear off a bit when riding a firestorm. they can corner well but probably not feel that confident compared to what your used to... try getting your balls enlarged

Got rid of the original tyres a few weeks back, running Metzeler Tourance Nexts as they grip proper good.

Fancy paying for my surgery mate?
