Vtr 100 Anniversary model 2008 .Number 16.

Post by Hogglepig »

Morning everyone .

Having had soo many bikes over the years i decided to buy the one i enjoyed the most .

I bought an Old VTR 1000 Anniversary model 2008 earlier this year .It was tatty and needs some TLC .Ive changed the rectifier and the CTC as suggested .

My questions to the forum and members is ,

The bike is number 16 and is an Anniversary model .

1- are the front forks upgraded on this model ? As they are tatty i intend to re paint them or similar .What do people suggest to re paint the forks .IE paint or powder coat ? If they are not upgraded what springs and fork oil is suggested .I have seen the posts on fork upgrades .

2-the wheels have gone scabby over the years .Re paint or powder coat ?

3- What tyres do people suggest ? There are a number of good deals out there on O21 Bridgestones .I've used these on a blackbird and found them good .What do they perform like on the VTR ?

4-I haven't Dyno checked the bike .Is it upgraded on the anniversary model ? It has a K and N in there and the Cans have been opened up ( Remus Grand Prix originals ) .

Apart from the burning questions above i just want to use it as a Sunday burn up bike and polish it up to look pretty . Can anyone suggest a web page where i can find out more information on the anniversary model ?

thanks ,

Hogglepig .

Welcome in.

As far as I am aware there were no engine mods on the Anni. it was cosmetic mods only.

K&N filters need some jetting work to get to run properly so if it's running ok that must have been done. It will need cleaning & re-oiling as a service item but be careful not to over oil it as that affects running.

Re forks & wheels various schools of thought on that one. Some will say PC some will say paint. With PC get it done with someone who knows bikes not just industrial PC. As a bike savey PC'er will know to plug bolt holes & NOT PC the disc mounting surfaces.

Re thge forks IIRC Anni's had uprated springs only. Best fork mod is to get them Rodgered !
Making up since 2007, sometimes it's true...Honest...

Thanks for the honest replies .

I stand corrected, my bike is in fact number 16 not 26 as stated .I was having a specsaver moment in a dark garage ! Sorry if i offended number 26 .

Any views on 021 Bridgestones ?

K&N will require some setting up on a dyno if it hasn't already - it will make an already poor mpg even poorer. Thank goodness fuel prices are still going backwards.

As for BT021 tires - hard wearing long life multipurpose all year round tyre  Kept me off the floor for many a year with nothing bad to say about em.

Painting forks> http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... orks+paint and yes get them Rogered to get the best out of them.

To find out more about the Anniversary model just search for 'Anniversary' in the search bar top right

and have a good gander through the *** Read Me for New Members *** esp. the Bike Maintenance and Upgrades/Modifications http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 23&t=31345

and let's see some pics of No. 16!

not even sure they have k&n filters, as the remus exhaust were just a straight swap with the originals. I've just resprayed yet another pair of forks, I did the same as the last pair, and the results are great. this time I even took the black plastic fork seal guards off. and I even managed to keep the original showa stickers.
I don't have any before pictures, just s few after pics.....
I used an acid etch primer followed by Halfords silver enamel paint and then a clear lacquer.

I did the same on a previous bike, this time I took some before during and after pictures
