Wonder why it had a respray - either it was and done out of embarrassment (i.e teal :-) or has it been in an accident. I'd find out what the original paint code was (on the subframe sticker) and a good look on the hidden side of all the plastics for signs of repair.
Sound advice that, thanks mate

It's had the fairing cut too .
I'd check it over fully before I part with the cash

Well spotted Lloydie - the screen support spars on the panels look broken rather than cut.

I took a friend over 200 miles to look at a VTR she had set her heart on. It appeared low milage and the colour she wanted but on inspection there were some not quite obvious crash damage repairs and despite my warning to walk away she bought it. Subsequently it was discovered it had a fractured frame...
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

An HPI will show all of this up when I cross reference with Honda and the V5. If the engine numbers don't match I shall be walking out or negotiating a significant discount

Mines a 2003 F3 and has the gold engine cases. I thought it was the F2 that had the dark engine cases. Welcome back into the club matey

this is my understanding of the engine cases colour change, they stayed the same from 96 to late 2003/2004.
this meant the early F2 models still had the dark grey cases, then they changed to the bronze colour.
what clouds the issue is late registered bikes. so you'll get 2004 bikes with the dark grey cases because although they were built between 2001/2003 they weren't sold/registered until later.
as for the bike melis is interested in, the engine case dilemma wouldn't put me off one bit. the cut fairings is another issue all together.
the dealer will have cleaned the bike up for sale, so it looks it's best, I would deffo check the engine numbers out, but other than that it needs to be fully inspected, front subframes are very easy to bend, so if it has had an off, hence the respray, i'd be checking the front subframe, to see if the front fairings line up correctly.
but lets be honest most bikes that are ten years old or over have probably been down the road at some time or other. so that alone wouldn't stop me from buying it. just check it over and the recheck it again....
