Carb Questions

Post by Seeker 77 »

So, I have read many threads on here over the last week and think that I have a plan in my mind for my carbs. The Factory Pro 1.0 kit seems to be the right one that I want but where the hell do I get one in the UK? Amazon have it for sale but it is in the US and will take about a month to get here. The bike is an 03 F2 so I assume that it already has 48 pilot jets in there? Would shimming the needles be all that I needed to do to make the bike run a whole lot better?

The carbs are running with well over 6 turns out, with a standard air filter and only open cans 8O The main cause seems to be the cans which are exceptionally free flowing, and loud! If the Dynojet kit is more accessible In the UK and does a similar job then I will go with that.

Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.

I am now running fpro needles and in spring I will try stock needles again with ma stage1 engine and think it is better option.

You can wait few months and I can sell it if I will be successful, but I recommend to stay with stock needles at stock height, or raise them 1mm max, and tune by adjusting of pilot screws, and changing sizes of main jets, rear always one size up.

Suggest you try the German distributor.
http://www.factorypro.com/about/distributor.html
Also worth a call to Big CC Racing, who used to be the uk distributor, I think, in case they have any spare sets left.

I have a set of carbs for sale with an F Pro kit installed, but they also have a Flo Commander on, which you can't remove, and are part of an enlarged airbox, with the tubes and the catch tank moved externally to the airbox, airbox volume is increased.
The snorkel is enlarged for better flow, and a K+N fitted.
The carbs have the connectors for the carb heater coolant pipes cut, but I have another spare set of carbs which can be cannibalised if you need to connect the heater pipes.
I ran it without for years and never had carb icing.

To build a good jet kit I just bought main and pilot jets, and some spare needles etc, and mix and match my own sets.
The only thing you don't get easily are the springs, but you don't get those with FP kits anyway- they use std Honda ones.

I prefer FP simply because you don't need to drill slides.

Do you really wanna play?

Jetting these can be tricky; that's why I built a real-time Lambda sensor display, showing each cylinder's air/fuel ratio in real time. This meant that I could do it myself without needing to pay a lot of dyno runs. It comes with a set of std downpipes with Lambda sensors welded in.

All for sale, should you (or anyone else) fancy a real custom setup.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Wow Tony that is some setup! I'd love to buy it mate but that's a bit extreme for richening the fuel to match some honky cans! Will give ze Germans a call and see if I can get hold of a kit.

Thanks to all actually, some really useful setup tips and offers

Love this forum!
