Hi, thought I would join in and talk VTR.

Post by gcs »

Ive had my 2001 VTR 1000 ( teal in colour ) for about 2 years, cam tensioner went on front cyl, last June (on way to brass monkey rally at Oturahura, central Otago) no indication at all, went on a rise in the road, I was following a cruiser down the hill on the other side and thought the noise i was hearing was his crappy exhaust overrun, WRONG! Had to trailer it home next day, 200km. It cost NZ$ 3200 to fix and took 5 months at local Honda dealer, everypart takes 3 weeks from Japan, and a few mistakes were made in the inital order for repairs. Fast forward to end of Feb 2006 a local touring group organised a poker run, thought it would be fun, went along, enjoyed an hour and a half spirited( for me) riding before it started missing and farting around, trailered home( aprox 150 km) , and after a week the shop found it was a coil breaking down, however it took a doner bike to swap parts off to isolate it, as it was ok with normal testing. Yep, it took 3 weeks from Japan and was ( with new battery, ht leads, spark plugs) NZ$ 650.
The bike is ok now, in fact its very ok.. love the sound, easy to ride when going, bought it with 12000 ks now has 28000 ks,tensioners went at 24000ks. I realy like this machine, and hope my worries are now over and I can enjoy it ( my previous bike was a 91 VFR red 84000km no worries).Sorry about the long post, but its a good introduction...
