Exhaust Collars - Heat?

Post by Mav617 »

Hi all,

Decided to take the exhaust off the spare TRX to get it ceramic coated. The TRX has four nuts holding the flanges on and I managed to snap the first one at the nut  so guess that will need a nut welding on and then the stud replacing. Having got the other three off, I tackled the collars. They are stuck fast and no amount of Plus Gas and hitting/swearing will move them. So I'm going to apply heat via a blowtorch, should i aim for the stud itself and get it red hot and hope that'll shift them?

Why not try running the engine up to working temperature, then with a rubber mallet show the headers who's boss :?: only a suggestion,

Chris.

Thinking about my suggestion again. It'll depend on the thickness of the headers metal on how much you can attack them with a rubber mallet, you don't want to be creating any flat spots I'm sure :eh:

Good luck,

Chris.

Reckon about £110 for my header pipe section:
