Fast Action Twist Grip Conversion

Post by SmileyVTR »

Always thought that getting peak power delivery was twisting the throttle outside my natural grip range, so awkward.

I've seen you can get replacement throttles with higher ratio cable pulling...anyone got/tried any? Worth it?

e.g. http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorcycle/throttles

The standard one is 1/4 turn ,
My trick is to remove the return cable and glue on extra plastic to the throttle tube .
You have a light fast throttle then but combine that with a lighter flywheel and +2 rear sprocket it becomes a very different animal !!

Or fit an RC45 throttle tube from David Silver as some have done,

Chris.

I think there's several different models that use a hrc 1/6 throttle tube, iirc a cbr600rr was one of them, I run the 1/6 tube, and I love it, it cost just over £20, well worth the money imho.

one more vote for the RC45 Honda part, it will get you 1/6th turn, but you need to remove the return cable as Lloydie said.

initially you need to be a little more careful in slow / wet roundabouts as it is less forgiving of clumsy wrist action, but on the move it is great and you should learn to be gentle in the wet

Cheers guys

Seeing the HRC and QAT acronyms I've noticed there's a load of old threads (sorry)....so I'm looking to buy an HRC 1/6 kit:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HRC-QUICK-SHI ... 27c978b93f

(assume it simply replaces std part without mods?)

and as echoed by Marty/AMcQ's recent post, I'll also remove the return cable.

Since I've got a sticky pull cable I'll replace that at the same time as fitting the QAT. Fingers crossed!!

The sickly throttle can also be

a) from the push pull cables being too tight and fighting each other [will be fixed when the return cable is removed]
b) the throttle grip rubbing against the bar-ends

so remember to check this too

So I removed current throttle tube to disconnect the return cable....arghhh...all that cr@p on the bar was causing the sticking.
Will clean it up, remove the cable and fit HRC QAT 1/6

Give it a rub down and a coat of paint or its just going to happen again.
I always give the right clipon a good spray with silicone spray too as it helps it and don't get clogged up like if you used lube .

Half the friction without it. Whether it's necessary depends upon your point of view. My old Beemer had rather manly sized cv's on but the jaymans didn't think it necessary.
