How not to check timing and valve clearences

Post by roasty_duck »

step 1: remove airbox and all 4 rocker cover bolts and remove the cover

check timing and clearences and put it back together...

go for a ride on bike night riding like theres no laws..

get flagged down by a friend asking why your bike is smoking but before he finishes you disappear in a cloud of burning oil smoke.

inspect bike

crap!
:redface

remove tank

notice missing bolt...

find bolt down side of engine

yay!! i managed to break it somehow... it lasted a good 20 miles before going!

luckily squiffy has a spare storm and let me have 2 bolts (1 just incase i did it again)

managed to reverse drill bit the rest of the bolt out.
all back together and not done up to 5000nm like last time.. who knew it was only 10nm!

You're not the first to do that, and probably won't be the last :)

It could have been worse

*runs to garage to reset all rocker cover bolts at the correct torque*

That'll be no fun to clean!

took it out last night to the local petrol station jetwash, £6 later its all shiny and "clean" i think theres probably loads still under the tank over the carbs but that will just stop it rusting :D

header bolts wont rust now lmao
