Honda VTR 1000 Ticking Noise
Honda VTR 1000 Ticking Noise
Firstly,
Thank you for the invite to your group.
Secondly,
I have an issue with my bike and was hoping you could shed some light on what I need to do to sort it. The bike starts and runs ok, but there is an annoying ticking noise coming from the engine I assume?
has anyone had this issue before? Ive added a link to the you tube clip of my bike ticking!
Thank you all, look forward to hearing from you.

Re: Honda VTR 1000 Ticking Noise
from the vid sounds like you have a blowout on one of the exaust pipe seals. try holding you hand close to each joint to feel for it, without burning your hand mind you

+1 Fabiostar's recommendation for the exhaust, i replaced mine recently and the ticking noise i had went away....
Having watched your clip, i now want to hear how loud the cans are

Hi Fabiostar,
Thank you for the fast reply. I got the bike a few weeks ago and it had some ridiculous cans on there. So I brought the standard ones and put them back on the bike. its still making the noise with these cans on. the ticking noise i mean.
I can feel a little bit of a blow at back where it goes to the right exhaust, will get on it.
Any ideas on the ticking noise?
Kind Regards,

the ticking could be the pipe leek. i had something the same at the rear of the bike and it was the joint to the left can, with a belly pan on the bike it bounced the noise back up and it sounded like a ticking. go round all the pipe links and at least it rules that out.

Re: Honda VTR 1000 Ticking Noise
Worth checking valve clearance too especially if it's not coming from the exhaust .
Oh and welcome

Hi and thanks for the reply,
My level of mechanical efficiency is changing the oil... I didn't use any gaskets with the exhaust clamps, just put them on to stop scaring the neighbours with the cans that were on. It was ticking before I put them on. But I have found that the exhaust manifold (hope that is right) is not fitted right and is loose. I am also having trouble with the ones iv put on, just doesn't seem to be enough room to fit them on right...
Don't suppose anyone wants to earn a few quid, so I don,t have to use main dealers lol.
I only put the cans on not the complete system.
Thanks guys,

Hi, also check the breather hoses that go from the valve covers to the airbox. The front one is fiddly to get back on the airbox if it has been removed

Hi guys,
Looks like I will be needing a few muffler packers
I'm located in Hereford, if anyone is close by.
Thanks again all.

Re: Honda VTR 1000 Ticking Noise
Welcome aboard
The video does sounds like it could be the exhaust blowing as others have already said.
The standard cans/silencers should have gaskets at the joints, as it looks like you've realised now
Chris.

Even more so it could be the headers blowing if the front one is loose, has one of the exhaust studs been sheared offVTR lover wrote:Hi and thanks for the reply,
