Stripping my carbs, any tips
Stripping my carbs, any tips
Hi all,
I was going to get my mccts fitted by Popcat, however due to finances, (even though Popcat offered me a very good deal, for which I am grateful) however I mean my own finances and the ability to get the bike down to Bideford, 200 mile round trip, etc, leads me to basically take it in my own hands to fit em, so while I'm at it as the bike hasn't been used for 2 years or so, I'm going to strip the carbs and get em cleaned, £20 if I strip em in a ultrasonic bath.
I have a list of things to do, mot, service etc. I've seen Sebs pictures of his strip down, however I am a little concerned how I set them back up etc, is there a video anywhere ?
Or any tips in =advance.
Thanks

Make a note of the turns out of the mixture screws .
Keep front and rear bits separate.
And you'll need to balance them once you've put them back together .
But if you ain't got the balances and pop has gave you a good price ,I'd find the time and the cash and let him do it .

Thanks chap, I've got a balancer, it's the extra costs of getting the bike down to Pop, otherwise I'd be down there, the price was for fitting the manual cam chain tensioners not the whole bike.
Thanks

Hi guys,
Do I need to remove the air shut off when Im getting the carbs cleaned? Im hoping to leave the carbs link together instead of splitting them, just not sure of what I have to remove before cleaning.
Thanks

Hi there, I take it by air shut off you mean the slides? If your cleaning the carbs then you want them as bare as possible if you are just cleaning them with carb cleaner and compressed air so you will need to remove the slides.
If they are being ultrasonic cleaned I would hazard a guess that they would need to be separated also.

Take Photos. count every turn on each jet
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!

Best tip is don't break the tps......
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Thanks for the replies guys,
I'll be putting em back together tomorrow now that all the bits are here, had to order some jets and a new gasket!
I'll be setting the tps down to 500 as well so hopefully things will be much better
Cheers
