Factory Pro HDJ needle jet
Re: Factory Pro HDJ needle jet
Update: carbs have been at FP for just shy of 2 months now. I have been trying to get an update for about one month now (4 e-mails).... all to no avail. Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seems customer service is a lost art.....

What can one say, apart from the obvious. I can imagine you're beginning to wish you hadn't started this now.
A bit of luck your way would be good, hopefully things will turn around for you very soon Micky.
Thanks for the update, it's hard to believe almost 2mths have gone since sending the carbs back, although it probably seems longer than that for you,
Chris.

Re: Factory Pro HDJ needle jet
Get some 41mm flat slides and be done with it .

at times like this I wish I had. Problem is I live in Canada and having a choke on a carbureted bike is not a luxury (and FCR's have none)lloydie wrote:Get some 41mm flat slides and be done with it .

They'll be back....just before it snows.
Ah well

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Re: Factory Pro HDJ needle jet
update: called FP again and it seems my carbs are on their way back (though no one thought to advise me of it....). I spoke to the tech who did the work and everything should be good to go.
Fingers crossed!!!!! I sure hope the results are worth all the headaches...

It would have been good customer service to inform you they were in the post I agree.
Lets hope you have more luck this time,
Chris.
Re: Factory Pro HDJ needle jet
Getting nervous now, lol... will be picking them up at the post office tomorrow (after today's failed delivery attempt)... was beginning to wonder if this day would ever come... I took off on Friday and will be installing them on the bike then... hope it all works out (though I suspect there will be some tuning involved, hopefully only of the "fine" variety; Flo-Commanders should ease that task, or so I hope)...

Can't wait to see how these work out :
told you not to but oh no you knew better
Re: Factory Pro HDJ needle jet
So, got the carbs in today. It took some effort to get it started but fire away it eventually did. I tried to do a mechanical synchronisation (using 6mm aluminum tubes) prior to installing them in order to not have their effect clouded by being out of synch. Unfortunately, I have my daughter this week and so was unable to take it for a test ride (that will have to wait until next weekend) to get a real good sense of their performance. First impressions from running it at standstill are (that it needs a synch, lol) that it seems to snap more quickly on throttle than it did before.
I set the carbs up with exactly the same settings as the original carbs I took out (38 (yes, 38) pilots with fuel screws out 2.5 turns, 165F/170R DJ mains, HRC rich needles, DJ springs, modded lift holes, TPS set at 500 ohms (vs 430 in old carbs)). I am hoping the fine-tuning will be minor, but will keep you posted once I have saddle time in.
FWIW, in addition to the HDJ needle jets, I also streamlined the butterflies (only on side opposite end which seals against venturi) as well as the screws (are now flush and held in place with red Locitite). Carbs also have carbon side plates (0.8 lb lighter). I also took advantage of the swap to put in a set of Jack Flash's (he of the Superhawk forum and builder of long fuel screws) brass choke nuts.
cheers
