Introducing myself
Hello all,
I've been looking at the forum for a while now and making use of the excellent workshop tips so it's about time I joined in properly.
I've been riding for nearly 25 years and while I had a poster of a Firestorm on my office wall in '97 it's taken me this long to finally get one. I knew she was a fixer-upper, but not quite how much of one (rose tinted specs well and truly deployed at purchase).
All the MOT stuff is done so she's got a ticket but the motor won't go properly. Look out for me on the workshop section soon....

It's a red one and I'm in Walsall.
She starts and runs just fine but won't rev over 5000.

Re: Introducing myself
That's an easy fix- the cam timing has been set 180 degrees out.
Have a look in the Workshop Knowledgebase.

Thanks for the welcome.
Ar aye a proper yam yam, ar jus live lowcal!
I've checked the cams are in the right place when the timing marks line up in the stator cover. What do I need to look for in the knowledge base to check if they're 180 degrees out?

I'm coventry !!!!!.
To check correct timing you need to set the rear cylinder on tdc with rear cams are lined up .
Rotate crank anti-clockwise 1&1/4 turns so front is on tbc and check the front cams are lined up .
If they are good you can rule out bad timing .

Re: Introducing myself
Hi lloydie,
I've tried that and all seems fine. I'll get some more detail of what I've tried in the workshop bit later.
Cov was my old stomping ground - I grew up in Rugby. Gold Cross, Rose Courtyard, Windmill, Silver Sword then last train home!
