Nothing at all. But don't live here without learning the language before you rock up, expecting NHS leaflets in a multitude of Asian/European languages.
I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!

You do realise the Polish had retreated and in return for fighting in the British army they were given weapons, training and uniform and the hope one day that they would have the ability to liberate Poland, I don't want to sound ungrateful, because they were truly shafted by the Allies when it came to carving up Europe with the Russians, and some they were truly great fighters ,but please don't make it sound as if they came here for the sole purpose of fighting for us, like liberators. BTW my wife's grandfather was polish and settled here after fighting in the war.

And apart from WW1, which the soldiers from India Muslims, Sikhs and Hindus did do their duty for the British common wealth, WW2 was a different matter, not only was sovereignty promised to them for helping us, but the Japanese were on their way and they also needed the help of the British army to overcome this absolute monster of an invader, my grandfather fought on that front.

The problem is history can be twisted on how you would like to view it.

As for the Welsh, Scottish and Irish, that is just being flippant, they are all British, and you of all people should realise the English isn't the true tongue of the Englisc its a mixture of Englisc, Welsh and Scottish, French, German, Nordic tongues and so forth, so English ( not Englisc ) is truly a tongue of the Europeans.

This is aimed at Wicky, BTW who did your grand parents fight for?.

"...The Muslim League supported the British war effort while the largest and most influential political party existing in India at the time, the Indian National Congress, demanded independence before it would help Britain. London refused, and when Congress announced a "Quit India" campaign in August 1942, its leaders were imprisoned by the British for the duration..."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India_in_World_War_II

They still got their independence post war so who knows what deals were struck. But after the war essentially bankrupted the UK is was quite inevitable.

Heck Brit government secretely paid Spain (Facist Franco) millions to stay nominally 'neutral' even though they leant more in Hitlers direction and still provided Axis with material support. Read about the Spanish detention and ill treatment of escaping allied POWS coming across from France via Pyrenees. Funny that folk have been more than happily to holiday and even retire there - are all the Brit ex-pats perfectly fluent Spanish speakers and au fait with Spanish culture and customs?

Beware of immigration, say the British expats enjoying sunny Spain > http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world ... 67638.html
If you find yourself on the Costa Blanca and it’s a pint of Kentish bitter you’re craving, there’s no better place – they have it imported – than the English Speaking Club in El Campello, a small village 20 minutes’ drive north of Alicante.

The club’s only rule, as its name suggests: speak English. Founded in 1979, the year that Margaret Thatcher swept to power, the club is a bastion of Britishness. The Union flag flies outside; The Queen’s portrait hangs on the wall; and on Fridays, it’s Fish and Chips night.

There are as many as 800,000 British expats in Spain. Many, like the majority of the English Speaking Club’s members, are retired and have moved here permanently.
Emigration nation: who are the thousands fleeing Britain each year?
After an estimated 323,000 people emigrated last year, we've taken a look at who they are

So the vast majority emigrate outside of the EU, to English-speaking countries with fairly strict immigration policies. The EU vote shouldn't be about a villa on the Costa del sol and using-pats as a reason to remain is false

So do you propose tighter restrictions/completely stopping folk emigrating UK as well as coming in?

No, we just need to make it more advantageous for people to stay. Very few people want to stop immigration, as much as the left like to keep it an all or nothing issue. Most just want proper controls, like those of Australia, to make sure we only get the people we need and want.

By using carrot(incentive) or stick (deterrence) or mixture of two? What happens if you let folk freely go while at the same time restricting folk coming in?

When I worked at the hospital there were menial domestics from Poland working on wards who were degree qualified happy to get up and start work at 7am and working long days at minumum wage, doing work that needed doing. Nurses are bought in from Philippines, Ireland and Spain as there aren't British nurses to fill vacancies, and Doctors are the most cosmopolitan lot of them all, German, Sri Lankan, Syrian and Pakistani. Treating the population of N.E. Essex which includes ironically Tendring i.e UKIP's Clacton constinuency.

In the above who do you want and need and would let in and keep out? and/or how long would it take to replace the above range of jobs with native English folk and what incentives would you think they'd need?

And if my cricket club wants to bring over an overseas player how do think the current system can be improved upon?

Wicky, any of them. Exactly the same as Australia, see a need, fill a need. If we need nurses, doctors, bin men and there are people in the queue with those skills, or they have the ability to learn but also to support themselves either with a job, sponsor or their own funds then great!
But if they're coming here hoping for hand outs while they figure out if they can be bothered to work or just get babbed up then I think we've got enough of them of our own.
Now the agenda has changed the stats say that all immigrants work, none claim benefits and they're all wonderful people. In the election campaigns over the last 2 decades a different story has been told, but we're to forget that now for cheap (but not really) holidays and a sense of feeling "European" ya.

Wicky, any of them.
So you'd actively seek to bring/allow migrants in to do unqualified minumum wage jobs? i.e. menial domestic, agricultural (as in my previous post about Boston, Lincs)

But that's what is happening right now :confused

and they don't have access to benefits unless they've worked a certain time. Same for Brits when abroad. Even the Brit in Denmark had to live and work there before he was eligible to receive his £1400 pm benefits pay cheque.

"Most non-EEA nationals who are subject to immigration control are not allowed access to "public funds" (such as jobseekers' allowance or tax credits), although they can use public services like the NHS and education.

Most citizens of non-EEA countries who come to live in the UK have "no recourse to public funds" in the initial years after they arrive, when there are still time limits or other conditions on their authorization to remain in the UK. This means that they are not eligible for benefits such as jobseekers' allowance, disability allowance, tax credits, or housing benefit."

and as for accessing NHS

"overseas visitors who need healthcare while in England will soon be charged differently for using the NHS as part of efforts to recoup £500 million a year by 2017 to 2018.

From April, the way the NHS charges these visitors is being changed so that it does not lose out on income from migrants, visitors and former residents of the UK who have left, who should all pay for their care while in the country." https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new- ... o-nhs-care

It depends where we need skills and where we don't. Unless we fundamentally shift from the socialist left we'll never get the lazy dolies off their fat arses and into work. It's just too lucrative and easy to sit at home watching Jeremy Kyle on your 50" TV. So sometimes we'll need to bring in help. But we should also be looking at getting our own into work before filling the job with a migrant. This is not the fault of the migrants at all, they see a job and go for it. The businesses are happy because they can keep wages low. We'll never manage to control any of this with the EU dictating what we can and cannot do to our great unwashed-masses.
And the EU vote, regarding immigration, is about letting EU nationals move freely into the UK and claim benefits, not non-eu citizens who have to follow the application process unless seeking asylum. Last year Cameron was stating that around 55% of EU migrants were claiming benefits, this has obviously changed with the political wind but I can't see it getting any better with new countries set to join.

So you agree that this foreigner should be deported...

A Commonwealth soldier who served for 13 years in the Army has been refused British citizenship.
Early in the last decade, desperate for manpower, the Army made strenuous efforts to recruit foreign and Commonwealth citizens, notably Fijians and Caribbeans.
