CBR929 Fuel not priming.
My 2001 CBR929 has been aggro to say the least, I bought it so I could take my Harley off the road and do some much needed maintenance work, so far its beaten the Harley for unreliability, luckily I have a mint X-11.
Anyway.
Bike was running fine, pulled up to my club house on Friday, wheel it backwards into the space it was running, was quite hot 101F bike cuts out, no problem, its done this every now and then since I got it, try to start it, bike is turning over wont start...Okay.
Turn bike off, back on.....no familiar whirling priming sound. Bugger.
Electrics are not my favorite part of mechanics, or diagnosing electrical faults.
Everything works as it should, but obviously no fuel must be being pumped to the common rail, as bike will not start.
So I need some brain storming here chaps.
Here's what I think it could be.
1. Faulty kill switch ( unlikely )
2. Loose connection ( maybe )
3. Faulty fuel pump ( maybe )
4. Bad relay ( maybe )
5. Bad ignition connection ( maybe )
6. Bad Key transponder ( unlikely )
7. The ECU ( please no!!! ).
So basically it has cut out before but has fired straight back up a few times since owning the bike, but this time Mr blade Monty says no.
Really appreciate some ideas, and please talk to me like an idiot, because on electrics I am the number 1 village idiot.
Thanks in advance.

Re: CBR929 Fuel not priming.
You haven't mentioned it, but have you checked to make sure it hasn't popped the fuse?

Re: CBR929 Fuel not priming.
I put a 929 back on the road after 8 years in storage. I know these bikes. Things that do fail on them is the fuel pressure regulator (a bloody fortune for a 929 replacement but less than a third of the price for a Vulcan 1200 one only difference is return pipe points down and not up), fuel pump can pack up (£20 for aftermarket one)
First thing is to check your fuses.
Second thing is to check your immobiliser/FI light. Put in key turn it dash should come on fuel pump prime and small red light go out.
Third check your battery voltage with ignition on.
Square red light is your mil light, is this flashing or solid? If it's flashing then it's giving you a fault code/codes
Have you had any instances where the motor seemed to knock or misfire?
If your fuel pump isnt priming and fuses have been checked then wire straight to a battery. Only a second, if it doesn't prime then fuel pump is knackered. If it does then could be faulty kill switch, spray contact cleaner behind switch.
If your battery is low on voltage then could be either RR or stator. Needs juice to run the FI or it will cut out. That means its time for the multimeter to check charging circuit, doesn't need to be running for some checks.

If it aint broke, get your bloody hands off it!

Re: CBR929 Fuel not priming.
Thanks for advice.
I just changed, regulator, stator and put a mobatt battery in, REG was second hand but the shop says it tested as working good.
So I can hopefully rule them out then I get bike home, the bike cut out so and wouldn't start again so I am going to assume either the Bank senor, fuse or fuel pump have gone to seven.
I am also going to check it with another key I have.

Thanks I will try all the obvious, but I might take you up on that offer if I get really stuck, I'll give you a tank of petrol and some money for your troubles, wouldn't expect anyone to go out of their way for nothing.

Re: CBR929 Fuel not priming.
Checked fuses, fine, undone the tank tapped and fiddled wires and connectors to BOS and Fuel pump ( oooh errr ) and then I started the bike up, it was given error code s,d,d S,d,d,d S,D,D,D,D hmmm I wonder if this is the injectors, anyway turned off the bike turned it back on pump primed bike fired up WTF
Could it just be a connector needs spraying up with electrical cleaner?
Oh it wasnt the Fi light blinking it was the red light.

The mil light is the square one where your N and main beam light is. If you count the flashes slow and fast then I can tell you what the code means

I counted them like this, it repeated.VTR Phoenix wrote:The mil light is the square one where your N and main beam light is. If you count the flashes slow and fast then I can tell you what the code means
S= Solid
B=Blink
1. S,B,B
2, S,B,B,B
3, S,B,B,B,B

Codes 12, 13 and 14. Loose or poor contact on connector for injector 1, 2 and 3. Open or short circuit on injector 1, 2 and 3 injector wire. Faulty injector 1, 2 and 3.

Re: CBR929 Fuel not priming.
I would unplug the injectors and make sure all contacts are clean and rust free. Spray with contact cleaner and reinsert plugs making sure they "click" when pushed in. Check all wires attached to injectors for burnt, damaged or loose wires. Once done try to fire it up and see what happens.
One thing I just thought of is have you taken the tank up before? Reason I ask is the fuel line on the right can get twisted and stop fuel getting to the fuel rail. Make sure when you put the tank down you use your other hand to move the fuel line so it doesn't twist or bend as you put the tank down.
If it's not any of the above then it's time to remove the fuel rail and remove injectors for a clean

Re: CBR929 Fuel not priming.
Yes I had to have the tank up before, to change the stator and Regulator, I think this may be part of the problem, I did lean it on its side as the steering damper was in the way, rode it for a week tho, but the bike does have a little history of cutting out.VTR Phoenix wrote:I would unplug the injectors and make sure all contacts are clean and rust free.
