just had a really nasty experience on the bike

in brief..

got a spyball alarm and immobiliser. really playing up so i removed it. with the alarm disabled i put the thing back in to complete the circuit of electrics.

was sitting at 80mph on a dualcarriage way and suddenly the engine dies. back wheel locked up and i was fishtailing and sliding all over the road. (good job it was wet at the time otherwise i would have highsided )

anyway what had happened is the stupid ******* immobliser reactivated itself mid flight.

now it keeps doing the same thing. any ideas anyone??

I think all Datatool system3 alarm systems should be banned on the 'its pissing me off' principal, having it constantly beeping while you are trying to clean it is a right pain.


Don't know about the spyball locking the back wheel problem, that is just plain dangerous. I would rip the thing out straight away and just use a thick chain in the meantime

Also if your bike is locked in a garage and you have no alarm on the garage get a baby alarm monitor plug it in the garage and the reciever next to you in bed you can hear if any theiving Bxxxxrd breaking in.

I had meta 57T or some such number............never went wrong.
Had it on Blackbird and the Firestorm. Always used optimate charger though..........

I don't have any alarm or immobilizer problems on the new storm. I just paid an extra £35 on my insurance because it does not have either!

Me friendly dealer I have known for years has said that there are less people buying alarms/immobilizes for their new bikes now. He said customers are realizing they go wrong, everyone ignores them when they go of and your insurance is not that much dearer without them.

Using my insurance premiums as an example.
An alarm/immobilizer fitter is about £350, an my insurance is £35 dearer for not having one. That means I have got to own the bike for 10 years before it cost me more in insurance that the price of the alarm!

Lets face it if they want your bike they will get it. MCN proved that if they stole one of their bikes from a busy street with the alarm going when they loaded it into a van no one took any notice.

I did a bit of bike recovery for the company that own the bike training school I work for. Never got challenged when a bike alarm was going off loading the van or with the alarm going off when driving the van!

I suppose if you are honest about it, the pro's are probably not gonna nick a storm if there is a gxsr or similar nearby.
Storms have never really been that popular and even broken for bits a gxsr has much more earning potential.

Bike thefts here are more in the Harley, ducati side of things or farm bikes Go figure I figured one day to get a disk or brake lever lock but we'll see.....

Mine stays in the house. in the kitchen , with the dog. Best bike alarm ever, , he's louder than most and has teeth . 1 problem though , i cant stuff him under the seat cowl and he'll probably fall off if I take him pillion.

Hahaha...cool. I have two big dogs watching over mine... I wonder can I buy a sidecar for them and take them with me... I'll just have to buy some goggles and 2 leather helmets for them too
