I noticed a strange noise last time out at Cadwell, it's a clunking noise, like something's catching somewhere and it's loud. It only happens when accelerating. I noticed it when leant over in 2nd, 3rd, 4th accelerating out of corners.
Bike has never done it before.
On the day I thought it might have been the bottom of the fairing catching on the tyre, but today, I've cut a piece off so it definitely can't touch.
I thought it might have been the front cog missing a tooth but I have taken that apart today and it's fine.
I've adjusted the chain and that's not too tight or too loose.
The bloody clunking is still there and it's driving me up the wall not being able to find what it is.
I can hear it today when I ride it in 1st up and down the street.
What else is there that could be 'catching' or making clunking / slapping / hitting noises like that on acceleration in all gears?
I did also think it might have something to do with the clutch, I adjusted the push in rod thing and it's still got the same issue.
Could it be the gear box? Does that make that sort of noise if it has issues or would I notice other symptoms if it was that?
Any ideas on what to check much appreciated.

Checked those and they're all in place and ok.cybercarl wrote:Cush rubbers maybe
I'm not on the GSXR forum, this is the only one I use.
I just hope it's not the gear box

Have you had the wheels ups off the ground and checked suspension linkages?
My new ride is a bit of a Howler and I love to make her Squeal

Similar sounds when gearbox cogs are damaged or selector forks, but can also feel like it's trying to jump out of gear. they have been known for it but it's not a regular issue, I would expect it to start with 1 or 2 gears though not all of them. check alternator has not come loose or anything that spins on the end of the crank. can you run it through the gears on the paddock stand to see if it does it when not under load.

Good idea, yes I checked that, pretty sure it's all fine.Pete.L wrote:Have you had the wheels ups off the ground and checked suspension linkages?
Hmm..doesn't feel like it's jumping out of gear and started doing it so suddenly in the first 4 gears.popkat wrote:Similar sounds when gearbox cogs are damaged or selector forks, but can also feel like it's trying to jump out of gear. they have been known for it but it's not a regular issue, I would expect it to start with 1 or 2 gears though not all of them. check alternator has not come loose or anything that spins on the end of the crank. can you run it through the gears on the paddock stand to see if it does it when not under load.

I ran it through the gears on stand and it runs fine and doesn't make the noise, seems to be only under load.
Good idea about the alternator, I will check that.
I removed the back wheel yesterday and double checked everything. I clean and lube the chain after most track days (around 100-200 miles), but gave it another going over as I thought I could feel a slight tight spot. The noise seems to be a little better now, not entirely gone, but it isn't as loud or often.
Makes me think it is related to the chain / cogs. I might buy new ones and see if that fixes it.
