Hi there I am a proud new owner of a 2003 VTR100 and have enjoyed every single minute blasting around on it. I do have a question tho, it has fitted a mcct and I was told by the seller it only needed one. Is this correct? I would've thought that it being a twin two were needed, but maybe the cylinders share the chain? Thanks for any replies, Mr flimsypiglet

Greetings - the front one commonly implodes but still worth doing both for peace of mind.

What...only one cylinder when there are two. Your quite right to question it as the wool is being pulled over your eyes.

Hello and welcome to the forum .If i was you i would do the other cylinder as well.Rear cylinder is a rarer failure than the front,but it still happens.

Thankyou for that, I will have a poke around the front cylinder to see if I can see a cct, the one on it is the one readily seen at the back. Is it possible to spot it without removing tank etc do you know. Once again many thanks. Piglet (flimsy)

To see it properly you need to remove the airbox. See it in the pic below the carbs.


If you peek through the frame you should be able to see it too

Thankyou for the great photos and yes joy of joys the rear cylinder does have a m cct. Just another query if I may...the bike came with little service record but the valve clearances were checked by ear by Bransons in sommerset at 23,000 miles and ok'ed, and its done now 26,000. I am inclined to wait until 32,000 to actually rip off the covers for a physical inspection (well not me, my garage..!) but wondering if these bikes usually need adjustment ie is this a wise judgment, or should I bite the financial bullet and get it done sooner rather than later. I won't hold any opinions to task btw!!! Love the bike, can't ride it enough ( I also have a 900 and 600 divvy so that might explain my enthusiasm, tho these arte very good bikes in their own right.) I too was told the front was the only the front one that needed changing...My bike currently has the OE adjusters fitted.

the rear gets a better supply of oil but the design is still flawed as it relays on the spring to keep things in position
i have an engine with a rear failure in the workshop

shims by "Ear" excellent except noisy aint bad, quiet ones are tightening up as the gap mormally gets smaller. I would get them checked at the correct time.

My mates car has done 126,000 miles on the same cam belt, i am waiting for the phone call. Don't mess with these bits, pistons hitting valves is never good .

Hello mate. Do them both you won't regret it and it's nice to be able to ride long distances without the thought of a failure lurking at the back of your mind.
Get another one off our man, he modifies the existing cct's himself
