God Speed John Glenn.
Very Brave considering NASA up to that point had lots of failures on the launch pad & rushed this mission forward to catch up with the Ruskies...

bloody right. I often think that, like when I rode a bike and got in a pickle out of my talent and comfort zone (easily done!!) it gives you the craps, but at least you have control, of sorts. Can't imagine what it's like to be strapped into a tin can with a gazzillion tonnes of rocket fuel under your butt and hurtled off the face of the earth with stuff all control over anything. Very, very courageous.

Re: RIP Rocket Man
Whilst in America, his name will be more easily recognized and highly regarded as one of the early pioneers of space, other folk around the world (if you asked them to name famous Astronauts), would come out with the usual: Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and maybe even Yuri Gagarin?
To me, it doesn't matter how many times a man has gone into space, or who walked on the moon. The fact that anyone has done it still amazes me. For all those who have lost their lives attempting the trip, and for those still making the trip (to the International Space Station) I take my hat off to them too.
All I can do is (literally) look up to them.
