Facebook privacy invasion and Data Mining

Post by VTRDark »

Anyone that has a facebook account should read the following link if you want to be aware of what parts of your soul, you are selling. Somebody should post this link up on facebook and start sharing it LOL I wonder how fast it would get removed or if anyone really cares for their freedom and civil rights.

https://veekaybee.github.io/facebook-is ... ting-this/

And while on the subject of data mining the bigger picture is that it could be being gathered by all these corporations, google being one of the the biggest and used/sold to create artificial intelligence. Imagine having robots that use all our thought processes (words, searches and images) like a brain but rather than use a brain to come to a decision it uses a bunch of computer algorithms from all our data mined over the years.

Dangerous stuff when a robot or drone makes a decision like firing a weapon based on someone else's or a bunch of someone else's thought process and words. Then again that's not much dissimilar from how armed services work today accept a human has emotions along with a concious mind and can decide to either disobey an order or change their mind according to the situation at hand because we have proper intelligence....or do we. Imagine if it was all robots aboard the nuclear submarine like in the film the Hunt for Red October. Would the ballistic missiles been fired in that situation. :eek2 I shouldn't even have to mention the added risk of systems like this being hacked, especially when goverments and corporations are careless enough to still be using weak passwords and security systems. If the likes of the NSA, NASA and elections can be hacked think what else can.

Food for thought and we should take action now to boycott these companies and do whatever we can to protect ourselves, our privacy and information from being leaked along with protecting our families and the human races future.

I think your confusing things. Facebook won't be using data-mining of peoples cat pics and what they had for dinner as a basis for launching nukes or whatever. :whatever

There's rapid progress bieng made in machines self-learning in relative isolation by trial and error specialised tasks as demonstrated in AI's capable of beating humans at GO and stud poker.

https://www.newscientist.com/article/21 ... imit-game/

Like any technology it can be used for good or bad - military, medical, stock exchange, economic planning etc. and maybe in the not so far future replacing sloppily brained POTUS (as demonstrated by the present mad as box of frogs incumbent) with enhanced digital version...

Maybe not nukes just yet while humans are still employed but robots and drones are certainly using social media to make a decision on whether someone is a target or not or soon will be and things will get worse.

This has all been going on for a while now.

The same as the threat of machines and robots taking all our jobs. I've been saying this for the last few years and it's only now, coincidently that it's being mentioned in today's news. Imagine what these drones and robots will be like when they have artificial intelligence and no need for a human with a joystick. I bet those killer drones come in handy then when there is anarchy on the streets because of unemployment and poverty.

We are not quite at the stage where robocop and drones are patrolling the streets and making their own decisions on data gathered without human interaction but it's all heading in that direction and were possibly aiding the technology for their artificial intelligence. A robot or drone needs to be able to recognise what a cat looks like in the same way facial recognition works to recognise individuals so yes they will be using our cat pics otherwise we will have a lot of dead cats LOL. It's already happening as we have photographic cameras that have diffrent modes for if it's a cat or dog one is taking a photo of. Cameras also have wireless and network connectivity so this data will soon be collected too in the same way we have Smart TV's that monitor our conversations and watch us via webcams (spycams) in the home. Just install one of their so called helpful app's on an IOS or Android device with voice recognition to control the TV and this is leaking your conversations in the room. Here's the latest smart TV data mining.

Folk need to wake up to what's going on around them on a deeper level. Not just the here and now. I cant wait for the day where robo-nurse comes around to empty my bed pan. Geez it could even save the NHS as they wont need to pay nurses.

Heck the police and insurance companies do it now

When they get some lowlife in they can easily see with a cursory glance on anyone's friends list in facebook who they associate with.

https://www.highgear.co.uk/car-insuranc ... cebook.htm

In the first link use of social media and mining of it / analaysis etc will increasingly more and does presently provide situational awareness and vital intelligence info from social media on military movements as shown in the deployment of Russian military forces despite Putin's denials (Russian squaddies kept twittering where they were 'vacationing' and posted geo-tagged pics!) . Especially the analysis on the deployment from Russia of the Buk launcher that shot down the airliner then trundled back accross the border.

In the first link you posted the military want to use techniques derived from Facebook etc to scan theough them social media more quickly, approaching realtime to derive intel - much like photo reccie ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Books/Spies- ... 0349123403 ) and later in the cold war satellite surveilance ( KH-7 and KH-8 GAMBIT and the KH-9 HEXAGON ) in priciple with rapid turnaround . Though that won't be done by self aware drones but other networked 'puters that would help derive interpretation / targeting info for potentially following up on .

As an individual in the digital world best never engage in any internet based interaction with the world, or even associate with anyone who does (in case they take your photo or mention your name) there's much one can do apart from curse Jacquard & Turing... plus the proliferation of snappy snappers using mobile phones.
