A tyre question

Post by Stevo Kifaru »

I couldn't find any recent threads about tyres, so thought I would ask a possibly silly question.....

Currently my bike has Diablo Stradas front & rear, but the rear needs changing. Having read only good things about PR3s I was wondering if I could replace the rear with one & still keep the Strada on the front?

Excuse my ignorance but I've only ever gone for matched pairs so am a bit unsure if this would be a wise move. Or should I just put another Strada on as it's about a 2:1 rear/front ratio with the Pirellis I've found, then when it's time to change both match up with PR3s/4s?

The Michelin has a fatter/flatter profile than the Pirelli, my opinion is it would be a miss match. The strada is an old design tyre now (replaced many years ago with the Angel ST) and modern sport touring tyres are in another league, they are cheap but that's all.. go for a pair of PR4's and feel the benefit, I know they aren't cheap but you'll be happy.
Or if you like the Pirelli's try the Angel ST, they are usually well priced.

Thanks for the reply popkat, unfortunately money is extremely tight at the mo so a pair of PR4s is way out of what I can afford now, especiallly as I had a week off sick in January. Can only really afford a single tire as it is. Might have to go for a Angel ST on the back this time, then save up for the PR4s next time.

If you are only buying one tyre then get the same as what you have.
