This Bring's Back Memories

Post by VTRDark »

I was considering going back to dispatch riding. I then watched the following and now I'm having second thoughts  This is the true realities of it.

I couldn't go back to it, 18 years in that industry but now I've lost that extra sense that seems to know what drivers are going to do before they know it themselves. I'd be slower through the traffic for a while at least but the mental strain from a full day at it would be more than I'd want to handle, I'm used to slower pace of life now

Presume that is either red paint off a bus or a pedestrians blood on the edge of the fairing screen..... That was truly scary to watch 8O

He did pull some right moody and illegal manoeuvres but that is pretty much what it can be like. I wont say I have never done that because I have but not all the time. Don't forget the faster you get from A to B the more POB's you can drop off and the more money to be made. Not only that but the controller will favour you for the jobs when they want things done fast. It's a job where one gambles with their life everyday fighting through the traffic and the road system. Also things do look a bit faster on video. The most dangerous and most exciting job I have ever done but sh1t money when you take everything into account like bike running and maintenance costs.

After careful consideration I would be stupid to go back to it especially in this day and age. I really need to find a job I am happy with though and something I can stick with. The only benefit to dispatch riding is the self employment so you can start and finish when you want and no two days are ever the same. If I thought I could restrain myslef, take it easy and earn a decent wage I'd go back to it but the pressure is on. Distance work is better but the bread and butter London circuit is shite. :( Then there's all the dirt and fumes and the cold wet winters.

That maybe the case but there are many out there that race around the streets like that including plod. The only difference is that plod have some pro training and have Blue lights. The biggest issue is the congestion and the the way the traffic system is set up and if there was less traffic to begin with there would be no need to ride like that and the system may work. He's just someone trying to do his job. Look at the way some bus drivers drive and those stupid hybrid buses don't help the way they jolt. They are lethal towards their passengers and other road users. The system even gives them permission to pull out in front of folk which because of the congestion may require cutting up a motorcyclist alongside. No such thing as indicate and wait for a gap.

Or look at how some cyclists ride...the next Bradley Wiggins wannabes. This is London's roads and it's a battleground out there. If you go to war do you wait to be shot before firing back. The rules of engagement say you have to wait until fired upon but my guess is most don't wait. So what does one do ride aggressively and defensively or ride along like George and Mildred with a sidecar sightseeing. That's no good when getting from A to B is earning you money and including free deliveries at times for those that are late. The pressure is on.

Most of the highway code and road markings are irrelevant anyway as one has to have their wits about them for the next car door opening or pulling out in front of you, slamming on the brakes, indicating left and turning right, doing a U turn or pedestrians stepping out etc. No time to look at or abide to a lot of road markings that's if you can see them through the traffic, not to mention keeping a look out for cameras and plod. Give it few years and there will be camera drones too so we will be looking at the sky rather than road. Heck you could stop and abide to some road markings or wait in a queue at junctions and then sit there in a slow moving traffic jam for the next 30mins or sit at some lights for 10mins. Might as well let Darwin and the luck of the draw sort things out. Maybe the answer is to load the the drones with lasers and simply take out anyone that breaks a law. That will get congestion and the population crisis down. But they wont because the system would rather aid things to make more revenue or is the bigger picture to push towards more automated and controlled vehicles.

I'm looking forward to the day where I can get into an argument with white van delivery driver for his bad driving but the driver is a robot / android.

yeah there,s loads of muppets out there . but he,s not really helping himself or valuing his life riding like this.

a little personal responsibility required I think. would you rather be smashed up or 10 or 15 quid a day richer cos you have ridden like this to deliver a couple of extra parcels ??

How old is that video? He passes at least four white Renault 5's in the first couple of minutes! Haven't seen any of them around for a few years.

No idea kev but your right, Renault 5s are ancient  There was a speed camera though. As for personal responsibility and care for life. There is more to life than life. One has to do whatever they have to do to survive. It's nature and survival of the fittest and if you start caring for those not in your circles then you put yourself at risk. Everyone else is simply a target.

The Oxan maybe slow but the Earth is patient. Now think about that bullshit what is it...manure for the ground and from there it springs another life so there is no death. Everything is recycled or reincarnated if you like. On a more basic level we are all atoms and molecules and just shape shift into something else. As for our soul that's something else....an energy field of pure conciousness on another level still that may or may not enter another host. Think outside the world we can see and what we have been brainwashed with by society. Why do you think man and machine can feel as one....well, that is because we are. We are all part of each other and everything. We are like Russian dolls. Think about the world inside us, a world we was once part of inside our parents or the world outside of what we see. For all we know we could be the bacteria like in our own bodies living inside a bigger body living inside a bigger body still that we call the universe. So in the big picture of things we are nothing.
