vtr 1998 Headlight Unit centering

Post by fulviogsx »

Hi guys,
cleaning my recent purchasing 1998 vtr, i discovered that fairing and headlight don't exactely match.
The bike is basically uncrashed and never disassembled. Is it normal? anybody of you has the same problem?

What doesn't match?

There's two adjustment screws / bolts horizontal and vertical) accessible from inside the fairing.

Take the fairing off the bike and see how the headlight is mounted and if it's been been bodged. Headlight should be mounted by 4 screws - 2 top, 2 bottom that locate in metal fixings impregnated into the fairing plastics.

You say the bike hasn't been crashed or dismantled in any way - but you've only just got the bike so has the previous owner done something in the past.

Yep, i will dismantled , in order to understand something more.buy i toke recently off the whole front (because of the mcct) and everything seemed to me brand new.this is why I asked if some forum user (before to dismantle :) ) can verifie on his bike how fairing/headlight match.
I saw some pictures on the web and it seems to me some other bikes are affected to the same problem

Misalignment can only occur if the headlight is attached to the nose plastic incorrectly

In the meantime yesterday i have checked lots of pictures of vtr on sale, and seems that in the earlier model (like mine, 98) it s a common problem

???

It's the same parts for early and late models - ABS plastic front fairing, headlight unit and fittings.

The omly thing I can think off causing such a gap would damage to the fairing or spacers / washers for some reason inserted between the headlight unit and where it fixes onto the fairing front.

I don t know why,
I have only noticed that some earlier bikes have this problem.if you observe the first picture (the red one with the circles, grabbed from internet) has the same problem.form the left and the right side everything is ok. But in the middle is lifted up.consider that the spanner i used in my pivture is an 8mm spanner

??? I can't see the problem you describe in your original post with the red bike and circles.

Do you see the same fitting problem on my spare headlight and front nose fairing ('97) ?
