Advice wanted

Post by Kitch »

Ok, I have a possible bike lined up. It's just round the corner from where I live and is silver (though I can live with that) It's also an absolute bargain.

12k miles, 21 litre aftermarket tank, bling bits (goodridges, SBK pads etc) £1600.

Reason it's a bargain is it's a fixed up CAT C write off. Seems damage was mainly cosmetic, but extensive (tank, front, side, seat farings) easily enough to add up to a non-economical repair that an insurer will dump. All reapired with genuine OE honda bits (cept the tank) and professinally resprayed.

Anyone had any experience of write off repaired bikes?

I'm really very tempted as my car's head gasket has gone, so it's fooked.

Should I go for it or steer well clear?

Hey Kitch,

I've bought cars that have been insurance write offs before and never had a problem, I've also had a mate at work who owned a repaired bike for a while. When my insurance company sort my damaged CBR out I also intend to buy it back off them and fix it up for winter.

Just buy it as you would any other bike, check the frame and engine numbers carefully, try to check for frame and suspension damage etc etc.

If you get it make sure you tell your insurers that it's Cat C, but apart from that everything else should not be a problem.

Some people get really paranoid about write offs but if it doesn't bother you then bag yourself a bargain. Good luck and let us all know if you get it,

Bruce.
