The race has changed greatly over the years, and while still a challenge and risk few will beat...It sadly is no longer dirt.. What started in 1916 on an old carriage track was slowly paved in sections. The City of Colorado Springs began to pave the highway in 2002 after losing a lawsuit against the Sierra Club
the final few miles at the top were paved in 2011 after the race.. So in 2012, the 90th running of PP hill climb, the race was on an all paved surface. "Records" set after 2002 are really not record by a lot of folks perspective as the course changed on each running...So its kind of a Pre 2002, and post 2012 deal.
And ya, I follow PP hill climb sort of..... been there for the race a few times, worked on a few bikes over the years that raced it
