Petrol tank removal

Afternoon all

I am going to strip and repaint my petrol tank.

How easy is it to remove and put back?

I have a 2000 plate.

Have searched the knowledge base but couldn’t find anything.

It's just two bolts up front 8mm - then a 10mm at the back running hozintal - unplug fuel sender connector again at the back

Lift tank up at rear , prop up carefully, take photos / mark hoses where they came from 2 fuel, 2 drain & 1 vacuum

Job done - to put back on reverse of above - special note watch where you put the vacuum hose back on.

It is easy. It's harder to ride a bike than remove the tank

Don't loose your little rubbers along the side rim at the base of the tank. You will want to remove the petrol cap for painting. It's only three bolts that hold that in place. The others are smaller and only there for show.

Can someone post a pic of the location of the rubber bits on the bottom of the tank? I had one (should there be two?) hit the floor the first time I removed the tank. I put it back where it looked like it was but it doesn’t touch anything. I set it aside. Looked in the service manual but it’s not mentioned. Thanks

Obviously the same on both sides, try a little dab of glue to hold in place...

Thanks MacV2. That makes a lot more sense than where my one is located (see pic). The other was not there. I will relocate the one and see about getting a second one ordered.
