Since I acquired my 1999 Firestorm, I've been buying a fair few bits. So far the engine has been fully serviced and the coolant changed and bled.
Today I've cleaned the calipers up and put in new pads, pad pins and pad springs. Yet to figure out how the rear pad spring works. It was weeks ago I took them all apart!
Got a full set of HEL braided hoses and clutch line to do as well.....
Get the pistons out as well for a polish and treat em to new seals and carefully scrape out any oxidisation from the seal recesses with a dental pick. Reassemble with some TLC and red grease and they'll be as good as new if not better with your new hoses. Make sure the rear slider pins is corrosion free and lubed up (red grease again) and the rubbers are not cut or ripped.
This'll give you an idea where the rear pad springs fit
The pad spring on the rear calliper sits in a recess in the body of the calliper...
If IIRC it can go in & hold either way but it has to go a certain way round as it holds the pad in place against the calliper body...The piston side one obviously moves with the piston...
The silver U shaped one locates on to the calliper carrier, this holds the pads in the right place...You need to make sure the inner pad is seated & held by this as it can drop down & can/will damage your wheel if it does...
Making up since 2007, sometimes it's true...Honest...
Have changed over all bar one of the caliper joint bolts. The remaining one is going to need a bit work to get it out as it's a bit rounded (not my own doing).
Couldn't see any of those grub screws on my calipers so glad I never bought any! Checked the fiche and looks like they go in after the pad pins?

Do you have the correct socket for the bolt heads...Torks type head...If you have them try the next size down & hammer it on, they can sieze but genrally not on that tight IIRC Torque up is 36Nm but I'd have to check that...

Definitely didn't have any of the caps when I took everything apart. Might get some, but no rush. If their torqued up, they ain't coming out.
Sure it was around 36Nm. Got the service manual so can double check. I used a 10mm socket for all the other bolts. Will double check tomorrow the stuck one isn't a torx.....
Looking much better now. Found the original little caps. My friend and I were both working on the bike when we stripped bits off so he must have removed them. Not putting original ones back in though. Still not sure I'll bother with new ones either.
