I was there yesterday.

Just up from Pately Bridge there was 1/2" of slush on the roads.

Brown pants? Check.
Traction control max? Check.
Keep to the car tyre tracks? Check.

When it wasn't snowing it was either torrential rain or bright sun. With the odd hailstorm thrown in....

Not too sure if it's any good but It's probably better than heading towards the coast.

Unless people really would like to go to the coast then yeah that's a decent route, can't tell off the map, does it include Buttertub Pass? if it does then even better.
Either of the routes will be OK for the Storm Troopers.

it is not using buttertubs, but it can be easily ammended to add that

Instead of going directly from Hawes to Askrigg we could loop north and take in Buttertubs.

Option 2 looks good Al, but what about doing it the other way round (anti clockwise) that way we'll go up the pass rather than down it.
I'm easy, but please no sh--ty single track adventure bike type roads that batter hell out of a road bike, there's no need for it there's plenty of good roads in that area to enjoy.

failed to do the shake down test yesterday as I decided to ride the little KH125 to work as it was a nice day. so the storm has been sat in the back of the van for 2 nights and a nice hot day already, and a bit of a smell of petrol when I got in the van this morning [just venting fumes from the heat I imagine, as there is no leaks].

So shake down happened this morning, and I am very impressed how stable the bike is with only 3 straps holding it. Emergency stop, "enthusiastic" cornering and speed bumps are all OK.

obviously the wheel chock is bolted to the van floor, and it provided the fore and aft location and a lot of side to side stability, but on its own the bike would move a bit during cornering.
mointing system is as follow:
1 strap round the front tyre pulling the front wheel hard into the wheel chock, and this leaves all the front suspension active.
Then to brace the side to side, I have a strap from each passenger foot peg hanger to a floor ring slightly forward & outboard of the position on the bike [so pulling down, outwards and forwards] and these are not done up super tight, only just taking the first 10mm of rear wheel travel till I got good side to side rigidity.

with that set up, the bike suspension is still moving when I hit big bumps, or emergency stop, but when cornering there is no tilt. so I am happy that this will be a good set up for the trip..... although on the road from Settle to Ribbleshead I might manage to do all 3 of these inputs at once, so I will just have to see how that works out
