anyone know the honda part numbers for upper and lower headstock bearings please?

If you're thinking about replacing the steering head bearings, tapered roller bearings are a better option than OEM ball bearing type bearings. The reason being, tapered roller bearings have a bigger contact surface area so last longer, and should need less adjustment once set correctly.
If you are replacing the steering head bearings with tapered roller bearings, don't go by the torque figures in the workshop manual for the castellated nuts,

thanks for that info, gents. i was kinda hoping that the bearings would match my 78 cb750 but it's definitely a stem swap now. planning on grafting a vtr front end on my phil read rep. easily done, just hoping to make my life easier!
